Working under close supervision and mentoring, the position supports process-design deliverables while developing an understanding of project requirements, business operations, customer needs, and the relationships between engineering, fabrication, and marine functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed engineering, analysis, and calculations for basic process assignments.
- Complete routine technical work under the supervision of senior engineers.
- Prepare accurate design calculations, analyses, reports, and procedures.
- Organize assigned activities to meet established deadlines.
- Review the project scope, specifications, schedule, and interdisciplinary requirements.
- Follow the approved process-design basis, standards, procedures, codes, and guidelines.
- Assist with process studies under the direction of the Process Lead.
- Support heat and material balance development for simple process units.
- Prepare manual sketches for process flow diagrams.
- Provide process information for material-selection diagrams.
- Assist with equipment-sizing calculations and compile equipment lists.
- Support the preparation of initial piping and instrumentation diagrams for simple systems.
- Prepare detailed design sketches and check drawings produced by designers.
- Review material take-offs used for requisitions.
- Enter process information on instrument datasheets and online lists.
- Record normal design conditions and upset conditions accurately.
- Assist with the development and depiction of control requirements.
- Compile emissions summaries under the Lead Engineer's direction.
- Perform relief-valve calculations for simple services.
- Provide process information for pressure-safety-valve datasheets.
- Assist with the process design of firewater, deluge, and gas-detection systems.
- Compare vendor information with process requirements during basic bid evaluations.
- Prepare assigned sections of operating manuals.
- Support research and data collection during proposal preparation.
- Maintain awareness of the cost implications of assigned work.
- Keep the Area Lead and Lead Engineer informed about progress, activities, and concerns.
- Attend training programs and apply new technical knowledge to project assignments.
- Document design assumptions for supervisory review.
- Consider quality, environmental, health, and safety requirements throughout the work.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's or Master 's degree in Engineering.
- Between zero and 3 years of oil and gas industry experience.
- Basic familiarity with process design and unit operations.
- Developing knowledge of applicable engineering standards, codes, and guidelines.
- Willingness to learn process-design techniques and analytical methods.
- Engineer in Training registration or membership in a professional engineering society is preferred.
- Awareness of current scientific and engineering methods.
- Able to prepare clear calculations, sketches, and technical documents.
- Comfortable asking questions and confirming technical understanding.
- Organized, accurate, and capable of meeting assigned deadlines.
- Able to work collaboratively with engineers, designers, and supervisors.
