Context: The Senior MEP Manager - Venue Systems serves as the principal technical coordinator for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, utilities, life‑safety, controls, and specialist venue systems throughout the project lifecycle. They connect the project management team with designers, contractors, vendors, operators, authorities, and end users to ensure reliable system performance within integrated venue operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design management, installation oversight, commissioning, and handover of MEP and specialist venue systems.
- Establish the technical delivery strategy for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, utilities, controls, and event‑related systems.
- Coordinate the Lead Design Consultant, specialist designers, contractors, suppliers, operators, and project stakeholders.
- Review design criteria, engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and system narratives.
- Confirm that MEP designs satisfy venue capacity, operational demands, event modes, maintenance requirements, and project performance targets.
- Manage multidisciplinary interfaces between architectural, structural, civil, MEP, technology, security, broadcast, and operational packages.
- Oversee heating, ventilation, air conditioning, chilled water, ventilation, smoke management, and building environmental systems.
- Coordinate electrical power distribution, emergency power, lighting, earthing, lightning protection, and energy monitoring requirements.
- Direct the technical review of plumbing, drainage, water supply, irrigation connections, fire protection, and utility infrastructure.
- Manage interfaces involving building management systems, SCADA, controls, metering, and integrated command platforms.
- Coordinate stadium lighting, sports lighting, façade lighting, event power, temporary power, and broadcast electrical requirements.
- Oversee specialist venue systems serving seating areas, hospitality suites, VIP zones, athlete facilities, concourses, media spaces, kitchens, and back‑of‑house operations.
- Review contractor shop drawings, material submissions, equipment selections, method statements, technical proposals, and coordination models.
- Lead technical workshops to identify clashes, resolve design conflicts, and close multidisciplinary interface issues.
- Evaluate system maintainability, plant access, replacement routes, equipment clearances, and long‑term asset management needs.
- Support procurement planning, tender evaluations, technical clarifications, value engineering, and specialist contractor appointments.
- Monitor installation activities to verify compliance with approved designs, specifications, quality plans, and authority requirements.
- Track construction progress, procurement status, equipment deliveries, technical approvals, and interface milestones.
- Identify MEP and systems risks that could affect safety, cost, schedule, operations, or venue readiness.
- Develop mitigation plans and ensure responsible parties close technical actions within agreed timeframes.
- Coordinate testing and commissioning strategies for individual systems and integrated venue operations.
- Review factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, pre‑commissioning records, functional performance tests, and integrated systems testing.
- Ensure commissioning sequences consider event operations, emergency scenarios, life‑safety interfaces, and full‑load performance.
- Support authority inspections, statutory approvals, energization, utility connections, and final certifications.
- Lead technical readiness reviews before trial events, soft openings, and operational handover.
- Coordinate operator training, maintenance procedures, spare parts, warranties, asset registers, and operations manuals.
- Verify the completeness of as‑built drawings, commissioning records, test certificates, and handover documentation.
- Monitor defect rectification and confirm that outstanding technical issues are resolved before final acceptance.
- Prepare technical reports, dashboards, executive summaries, presentations, risk updates, and decision papers.
- Provide technical guidance to project managers, engineers, consultants, contractors, and specialist teams.
- Promote compliance with health, safety, quality, sustainability, and engineering governance requirements.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience managing MEP design, construction, commissioning, and handover on complex developments.
- Demonstrated involvement in stadiums, arenas, convention centers, airports, hospitality destinations, entertainment venues, or comparable large‑scale facilities.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, utilities, and specialist building systems.
- Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary consultants, contractors, vendors, operators, and senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing technically complex interfaces across architecture, structures, civil works, MEP services, venue technology, and operations.
- Detailed understanding of design management, procurement, installation sequencing, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness.
- Ability to review engineering calculations, specifications, equipment schedules, contractor submissions, and technical reports.
- Familiarity with building management systems, integrated controls, energy monitoring, and intelligent venue operations.
- Knowledge of spectator facilities, hospitality operations, athlete spaces, media areas, broadcast requirements, and event‑readiness needs.
- Strong understanding of life‑safety systems, emergency power, fire protection, smoke control, and authority approval processes.
- Experience overseeing integrated systems testing and resolving complex commissioning defects.
- Working knowledge of international engineering codes, sustainability requirements, quality systems, and construction safety standards.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to evaluate technical changes, value engineering options, and delivery risks.
- Excellent reporting, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Professional registration, chartered status, or membership of a recognised engineering institution is desirable.
