Role Context

The Project Manager - Sports Facilities will support the delivery of large‑scale stadium and event infrastructure by directing day‑to‑day activities across assigned work packages. The position connects multidisciplinary design teams, consultants, contractors, specialist suppliers, authorities, operators and client representatives throughout the project lifecycle. The role has a direct impact on venue functionality, spectator experience, operational readiness, commercial performance and timely project completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage assigned stadium and sports venue packages from initial planning through construction completion and handover.
  • Coordinate architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, technology, security, civil and specialist design interfaces.
  • Track project performance against approved schedules, budgets, quality targets, contractual milestones and delivery priorities.
  • Work closely with the Senior Project Manager and Project Director to maintain momentum across daily project execution.
  • Coordinate consultants, contractors, subcontractors, specialist vendors, operators and external stakeholders.
  • Review design submissions, technical reports, shop drawings, contractor proposals, method statements and project deliverables.
  • Identify interface conflicts between design disciplines and drive timely technical resolution.
  • Support procurement planning, tender documentation, bid evaluations, technical clarifications and contractor appointments.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure assigned work packages meet contractual and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate spectator seating, concourses, hospitality suites, VIP areas, athlete facilities, media zones, back‑of‑house spaces and venue support services.
  • Oversee interfaces involving audiovisual systems, information technology, telecommunications, access control, security systems, scoreboards, broadcast infrastructure and venue technology.
  • Maintain action trackers, decision logs, risk registers, issue registers, change records and project reporting systems.
  • Identify delivery risks and coordinate practical mitigation measures with responsible parties.
  • Monitor testing and commissioning activities across building systems, technology packages, life‑safety systems and operational equipment.
  • Support venue readiness reviews, trial operations, defect rectification, training, documentation and final acceptance.
  • Coordinate authority submissions, statutory approvals, inspection requirements and stakeholder interfaces.
  • Ensure project activities comply with established management procedures, quality plans and health, safety and environment requirements.
  • Prepare progress reports, executive summaries, presentations, meeting minutes, dashboards and management updates.
  • Review contractor schedules, recovery plans, resource forecasts and sequencing strategies.
  • Support commercial teams with package status, progress verification, change assessments and potential claims.
  • Facilitate coordination meetings and ensure actions are assigned, monitored and closed within agreed timeframes.
  • Promote effective communication between design, construction, commissioning, operations and handover teams.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 12 years of professional experience in project management, construction management, design management or major project delivery.
  • Previous involvement in stadiums, arenas, convention centers, airports, hospitality developments, entertainment venues or similarly complex facilities.
  • Strong understanding of the complete project lifecycle from design development and procurement through construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants, contractors, specialist suppliers and operational stakeholders.
  • Practical knowledge of stadium operations, crowd movement, spectator circulation, hospitality facilities, athlete requirements and event‑readiness planning.
  • Ability to manage overlapping workstreams, technical dependencies and complex project interfaces.
  • Strong competence in schedule monitoring, risk management, issue resolution, reporting and action tracking.
  • Experience reviewing technical submissions, contractor proposals, design deliverables and procurement documentation.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems and construction health and safety requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to prepare clear reports, presentations, meeting records and executive‑level project summaries.
  • PMP certification or an equivalent project management qualification is preferred.
  • Professional registration or membership with a recognised engineering, architectural or project management institution is desirable.
  • Sound judgment, commercial awareness, organisational discipline and the ability to perform effectively under demanding delivery conditions.
