Rotating machinery is fundamental to production continuity, utility availability, and process stability. The technician will therefore be responsible for maintaining mechanical integrity, identifying developing failures, performing precision repairs, and verifying equipment performance before returning machinery to service. As a senior technical resource, the role also supports junior and trainee technicians by demonstrating correct maintenance techniques, safe work practices, alignment methods, and systematic troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive, corrective, predictive, and breakdown maintenance on rotating equipment.
  • Maintain pumps, compressors, turbines, motors, generators, blowers, and utility rotating systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults using equipment condition, operating trends, inspection findings, and maintenance history.
  • Determine probable failure causes before carrying out repairs.
  • Replace bearings, mechanical seals, couplings, and other rotating equipment components.
  • Perform precision shaft and coupling alignment using appropriate mechanical and laser alignment techniques.
  • Carry out balancing activities where required to restore acceptable machinery performance.
  • Inspect lubrication systems and verify correct lubricant condition, level, and application.
  • Conduct post-maintenance test runs to confirm equipment efficiency, stability, and operational readiness.
  • Monitor machinery during test runs for abnormal vibration, noise, leakage, temperature, or pressure conditions.
  • Perform condition-based maintenance using vibration readings, oil analysis results, temperature trends, pressure data, and performance indicators.
  • Carry out vibration checks as part of predictive maintenance routines.
  • Conduct thermography checks where required to identify abnormal temperature conditions.
  • Use acoustic detection techniques to identify developing mechanical problems.
  • Take oil samples according to approved condition monitoring requirements.
  • Record and assess machinery performance trends to support early fault detection.
  • Complete preventive maintenance activities according to OEM manuals, approved procedures, and reliability requirements.
  • Participate in scheduled plant and offshore shutdown maintenance activities.
  • Support troubleshooting and restoration of equipment during unscheduled shutdowns.
  • Assist commissioning teams during installation and mechanical completion of new rotating equipment.
  • Support alignment, pre-commissioning, functional testing, and startup of newly installed machinery.
  • Participate in acceptance testing and verify equipment readiness before handover to Operations.
  • Review vendor manuals, technical drawings, commissioning documents, and equipment records.
  • Support project punch list preparation and closeout.
  • Confirm that identified mechanical deficiencies are resolved before package handover.
  • Participate in project documentation review and provide maintenance-related technical input.
  • Identify persistent reliability problems affecting rotating equipment.
  • Escalate recurring failures to the Supervisor or relevant rotating equipment specialist.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis investigations following significant or repetitive machinery failures.
  • Provide practical maintenance information to support identification of failure mechanisms.
  • Assist with implementation of corrective actions arising from reliability investigations.
  • Recommend improvements to preventive maintenance routines, inspection frequencies, and task procedures.
  • Apply rotating equipment maintenance practices that support improved Mean Time Between Failures.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce unplanned shutdowns and recurring equipment problems.
  • Determine spare parts, consumables, tools, and precision equipment required before maintenance begins.
  • Ensure bearings, seals, couplings, and other precision components are handled and stored correctly.
  • Maintain specialized tools including dial indicators, laser alignment equipment, bearing heaters, torque wrenches, and portable vibration devices.
  • Inspect mechanical tools before use and report damaged or inaccurate equipment.
  • Arrange repair or replacement of defective maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Record maintenance work, failure findings, repairs, testing, and equipment condition within CMMS.
  • Update and close assigned work orders accurately in MAXIMO.
  • Maintain rotating equipment maintenance histories for future analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Record shaft alignment values, inspection findings, repair details, and test run results.
  • Prepare accurate daily activity reports.
  • Provide technical information for maintenance dashboards, reliability reports, and KPI monitoring.
  • Mentor junior and trainee technicians in rotating equipment maintenance techniques.
  • Demonstrate safe dismantling, handling, inspection, assembly, and testing practices.
  • Guide junior personnel during troubleshooting and fault diagnosis activities.
  • Coordinate daily work with Rotating Supervisors, Mechanical Technicians, Operations, Planning, HSE, Integrity, and Reliability teams.
  • Work with shutdown planning teams and control room personnel during major maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with OEM specialists, vendors, contractors, and project teams during specialist repair and commissioning work.
  • Complete assigned work within approved timeframes and report potential delays promptly.
  • Request additional manpower, tools, materials, or specialist support when required.
  • Follow all applicable maintenance procedures, ADNOC COPs, and HSEMS requirements.
  • Comply with Permit to Work, LOTO, confined space entry, and SIMOPS controls where applicable.
  • Identify hazards before and during mechanical maintenance activities.
  • Report unsafe conditions, Near Misses, and abnormal equipment conditions without delay.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, drills, and emergency response activities.
  • Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work areas throughout maintenance execution.
Ideal Profile

The position requires a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related mechanical discipline. Candidates should have at least 6 years of hands-on experience maintaining rotating equipment within Oil and Gas facilities. Strong practical exposure to pumps, compressors, turbines, motors, generators, blowers, and utility rotating machinery is required. Experience with commissioning, startup, plant shutdowns, project handover, and major maintenance activities will be particularly valuable. The successful candidate should understand bearing replacement, mechanical seals, couplings, shaft alignment, lubrication systems, balancing, vibration fundamentals, and rotating equipment troubleshooting. Candidates should be able to interpret P and IDs, mechanical equipment drawings, vendor documentation, alignment data, and technical maintenance information. Knowledge of predictive maintenance methods including vibration monitoring, thermography, oil analysis, acoustic detection, and condition trending is important.
