Role Context The Mechanical Technician will perform hands-on maintenance and precision repair work on critical rotating and static equipment used within LNG or ASR plant operations. The position requires strong mechanical fitting capability, accurate measurement techniques, close-tolerance work, equipment alignment, dismantling, assembly, and routine machinery condition monitoring. Reliable execution of this work directly supports plant availability, equipment integrity, safe production, and reduced mechanical downtime. The technician may work independently or alongside other maintenance personnel depending on equipment complexity and job requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled maintenance, overhaul, troubleshooting, and repair activities on major plant machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Service and repair pumps, steam turbines, gas turbines, rotating compressors, reciprocating compressors, fans, blowers, and gearboxes.
  • Work on tanker berth flow booms, capstans, overhead cranes, and seawater screening equipment where assigned.
  • Maintain heat exchangers, boilers, furnaces, columns, vessels, oil purifiers, and associated process equipment.
  • Dismantle rotating equipment systematically and inspect components for wear, damage, dimensional variation, and serviceability.
  • Repair, assemble, and align rotating machinery according to established maintenance tolerances and technical requirements.
  • Work accurately with running fits, shrink fits, press fits, shafts, bushings, wear rings, keys, and bearings.
  • Use spanners, hammers, wrenches, pneumatic equipment, drilling equipment, and high-pressure jetting tools safely.
  • Perform precision measurements using callipers, feeler gauges, micrometers, verniers, clock gauges, and other measuring instruments.
  • Carry out maintenance activities requiring very close mechanical tolerances.
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble heat exchangers, columns, vessels, boilers, and associated static equipment.
  • Fabricate pipework from approved isometric drawings when required.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and dimensional information during maintenance activities.
  • Operate basic machine tools including grinding machines, air-driven drills, and impact wrenches.
  • Participate in routine monitoring of major machinery to identify developing mechanical problems.
  • Support vibration analysis and physical equipment checks as part of machinery condition monitoring.
  • Report unusual vibration, noise, temperature, leakage, or other indicators of equipment deterioration.
  • Prepare dimensional records following repair, assembly, or alignment work.
  • Document pump alignment, pipework measurements, equipment clearances, and other completed maintenance data.
  • Inspect completed work before equipment is returned to operation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance reports and simple data sheets showing work performed.
  • Keep plant work areas clean, orderly, and free from unnecessary maintenance hazards.
  • Follow applicable Technical and Operational Integrity requirements under AIRMS.
  • Apply safe mechanical maintenance practices during dismantling, lifting, assembly, alignment, testing, and equipment reinstatement.
  • Protect personal safety and the safety of colleagues by complying with applicable HSE requirements.
  • Intervene immediately where unsafe work or non-compliance is observed.
  • Stop unsafe activities where necessary and report the situation regardless of the position of the personnel involved.
  • Support maintenance teams during plant shutdowns, major overhauls, and equipment restoration activities when required.
Ideal Profile

The position requires secondary education or an equivalent qualification supported by practical mechanical maintenance experience. Candidates should have at least 4 years of experience repairing and maintaining machinery and equipment within the Oil and Gas or Petrochemical industry. Strong practical knowledge of rotating equipment is required, particularly pumps, turbines, compressors, fans, blowers, gearboxes, and associated mechanical components. Candidates should understand mechanical fitting tolerances involving shafts, bushings, wear rings, bearings, keys, running fits, shrink fits, and press fits. Experience working with heat exchangers, vessels, columns, boilers, pipework, and other static equipment will also be important. The successful candidate must be competent with precision measuring instruments and capable of performing close-tolerance maintenance and alignment work. Good spoken and written English is required for technical communication, reporting, maintenance documentation, and coordination with supervisors and other technicians. Strong coordination skills, safe working discipline, mechanical judgment, and attention to dimensional accuracy are essential.
