Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical engineering activities from concept and feasibility through detailed design, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Develop and review mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, layouts, equipment selections, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Design and coordinate mechanical systems such as HVAC, ventilation, chilled water, pumps, piping, fire protection, compressed air, utilities, rotating equipment, or other systems relevant to the project.
- Review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, material selections, technical submissions, and equipment data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare technical reports, design documentation, tender specifications, bills of quantities, cost estimates, and engineering proposals where required.
- Coordinate mechanical engineering activities with architectural, structural, electrical, instrumentation, civil, process, and other disciplines.
- Identify and resolve design interfaces, technical clashes, constructability issues, and engineering constraints.
- Review contractor and supplier submissions, shop drawings, method statements, material submissions, and technical proposals.
- Provide technical clarification and engineering support to project teams, contractors, consultants, and clients.
- Attend design reviews, technical meetings, site meetings, coordination meetings, inspections, and client discussions.
- Monitor mechanical installation activities to ensure work is carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, standards, schedules, and quality requirements.
- Conduct site inspections and identify technical, quality, installation, or compliance issues requiring corrective action.
- Support testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, performance testing, inspection, and final handover of mechanical systems.
- Review testing and commissioning procedures, test results, punch lists, as-built documentation, operation and maintenance manuals, and handover records.
- Investigate mechanical failures, performance issues, design problems, and equipment deficiencies and recommend effective corrective solutions.
- Perform engineering analysis, calculations, simulations, load assessments, equipment sizing, energy evaluations, or other technical studies as required.
- Apply relevant engineering codes, standards, regulations, client requirements, and project specifications to all mechanical engineering activities.
- Support value engineering initiatives by identifying practical opportunities to improve performance, reliability, constructability, and cost efficiency.
- Evaluate technical proposals, equipment selections, supplier quotations, and alternative engineering solutions.
- Support procurement by preparing technical specifications, reviewing supplier documentation, evaluating bids, and coordinating equipment requirements.
- Monitor engineering deliverables, technical schedules, project milestones, and outstanding design issues.
- Identify engineering risks, technical constraints, design changes, and potential impacts on project cost, quality, and schedule.
- Support change management and assess the technical implications of proposed modifications and variations.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, drawings, calculations, specifications, reports, approvals, and project documentation.
- Ensure mechanical engineering activities comply with applicable quality, health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with authorities, certification bodies, clients, consultants, and other stakeholders where approvals or technical submissions are required.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers, designers, draftsmen, and other engineering personnel.
- Review work prepared by junior engineers and provide technical guidance to improve accuracy, quality, and engineering practices.
- Support project managers with technical planning, resource requirements, progress monitoring, risk identification, and engineering decisions.
- Monitor industry developments, emerging technologies, energy‑efficient solutions, engineering standards, and best practices relevant to mechanical systems.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes, system reliability, project delivery, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
- Typically 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, with senior-level experience in design, project engineering, manufacturing, building services, industrial, energy, oil and gas, data centre, or other relevant environments.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, system design, equipment selection, engineering calculations, installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Experience with mechanical systems, equipment, piping, HVAC, ventilation, pumps, rotating equipment, or other relevant engineering systems depending on the industry.
- Strong understanding of applicable engineering codes, standards, statutory requirements, and technical specifications.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, calculations, technical specifications, shop drawings, material submissions, and supplier documentation.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, Inventor, ANSYS, or other relevant mechanical engineering and simulation tools.
- Experience with BIM, 3D modelling, engineering analysis, or project management software is an advantage.
- Strong technical problem‑solving, analytical, design, and decision‑making skills.
- Excellent project coordination and stakeholder‑management abilities.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly.

- Ability to manage multiple engineering priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
- Professional engineering registration, chartered status, or relevant industry certification is an advantage.
- Experience with international engineering standards and multidisciplinary projects is preferred.
- Willingness to travel to project sites, attend inspections, and support project activities when required.
