McDermott International, Ltd is hiring an experienced mechanical engineer to resolve complex technical issues, guide engineering teams, coordinate project interfaces, and deliver reliable mechanical systems within approved budgets and schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform conceptual engineering, FEED studies, technical evaluations, and detailed mechanical design.
- Complete engineering analyses in accordance with the design basis, project specifications, codes, and applicable standards.
- Apply mechanical engineering knowledge to standard, complex, and nonstandard project situations.
- Prepare accurate design calculations, technical reports, engineering procedures, and supporting documentation.
- Plan short‑term work activities and manage assigned tasks within approved schedules and budgets.
- Maintain focus on cost‑effective engineering execution without compromising safety, quality, or technical integrity.
- Lead or coordinate the discipline project team when delegated by the Lead Engineer.
- Explain complex engineering matters clearly to project personnel, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain complete familiarity with project scope, specifications, schedules, deliverables, and multidisciplinary interfaces.
- Identify technical concerns, missing information, schedule constraints, and design conflicts at an early stage.
- Initiate practical corrective actions before identified issues affect engineering, procurement, fabrication, or project delivery.
- Identify changes to project scope and raise change notifications with supporting records and estimates.
- Assist with the preparation and technical justification of variation orders.
- Coordinate with all engineering disciplines to develop integrated and clash‑free designs.
- Obtain design inputs from process, piping, electrical, instrumentation, structural, safety, marine, and other relevant disciplines.
- Maintain close coordination with planning, fabrication, procurement, and project management teams.
- Document significant communications that result in technical decisions, commitments, or assigned actions.
- Forward records of substantive communications to the Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline Manager.
- Support bid proposals by reviewing technical requirements and preparing execution statements.
- Develop work‑hour estimates, identify engineering resources, and define project‑specific requirements for proposals.
- Raise technical queries to clarify incomplete information, confirm scope, and resolve inconsistencies.
- Ensure engineering work follows customer procedures, specifications, standards, operational requirements, and approved practices.
- Prepare mechanical engineering design bases, philosophies, specifications, and discipline procedures.
- Participate in finalising deliverable registers and confirm compliance with functional and contractual requirements.
- Attend project reviews, vendor meetings, engineering coordination sessions, and offshore site surveys.
- Provide technical direction to designers producing mechanical drawings, layouts, equipment details, and related documents.
- Review design reports, calculations, specifications, procedures, and engineering deliverables.
- Provide mechanical design inputs required by other disciplines to complete their work.
- Support procurement of mechanical equipment, materials, components, and specialist services.
- Prepare and review material requisitions, equipment requisitions, and purchase requisitions.
- Evaluate technical quotations and prepare clarification queries for suppliers.
- Compile technical bid tabulations, recommendations, and procurement supporting documents.
- Coordinate with procurement personnel to obtain and expedite vendor drawings, calculations, manuals, and data sheets.
- Update project weight reports following receipt and review of vendor information.
- Check mechanical engineering work completed by engineers and designers within the discipline.
- Review vendor and subcontractor submissions for compliance with project specifications.
- Provide clear technical comments and monitor the resolution of identified deficiencies.
- Perform single‑discipline checks and inter‑discipline design checks.
- Verify that mechanical deliverables are accurate, coordinated, constructible, and technically complete.
- Respond to fabrication queries and define appropriate correction or rectification requirements.
- Support the investigation and resolution of equipment, material, fabrication, or installation issues.
- Keep the Lead Engineer informed of technical, budgetary, schedule, staffing, and project execution concerns.
- Monitor progress, workload, productivity, and cost performance for assigned engineering activities.
- Guide less experienced engineers and designers in mechanical engineering methods, procedures, and standards.
- Share practical knowledge relating to calculations, specifications, requisitions, vendor reviews, and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Maintain organised engineering records and support the controlled filing of approved discipline documentation.
- Contribute lessons learned and improvement recommendations for future projects.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Senior‑level mechanical engineering experience within oil and gas, offshore, onshore, energy, or EPCI projects.
- Strong experience in conceptual design, FEED studies, technical assessments, and detailed engineering.
- Practical knowledge of mechanical equipment, materials, engineering calculations, and project specifications.
- Ability to prepare and review design bases, philosophies, specifications, procedures, reports, and calculations.
- Experience coordinating mechanical engineering with process, piping, electrical, instrumentation, structural, and safety disciplines.
- Knowledge of applicable engineering codes, international standards, client specifications, and recognized industry practices.
- Experience preparing equipment requisitions and supporting technical procurement activities.
- Ability to evaluate vendor quotations, bid tabulations, technical queries, and supplier documentation.
- Familiarity with fabrication processes, construction requirements, vendor data, and equipment weight management.
- Experience checking engineering work and conducting single‑discipline and inter‑discipline reviews.
- Ability to identify scope changes and support change notifications, estimates, and variation orders.
- Strong planning, organization, cost awareness, and time‑management capability.
- Ability to resolve complex engineering problems using sound technical judgment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for reports, meetings, technical clarifications, and stakeholder coordination.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction to designers.
- Previous experience leading discipline activities or acting as a delegated project lead is advantageous.
