Responsibilities

  • Perform basic mechanical design calculations, analyses, and equipment-related tasks.
  • Prepare design calculations, analysis notes, technical reports, procedures, and supporting documents.
  • Review supplier/manufacturer drawings, documents, calculations, and submissions.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, buyers, suppliers, and project personnel; meet deadlines.
  • Assist with equipment selection, data sheets, and procurement support.

Associate Mechanical Engineer – Equipment in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is an Oil and Energy hiring opportunity for an early‑career engineer seeking practical experience in static equipment, rotating machinery, packaged systems, technical calculations, vendor documentation, and EPC project delivery. McDermott International, Ltd is seeking a motivated engineering graduate who can complete routine mechanical assignments under supervision while developing knowledge of international standards, project specifications, quality systems, and equipment procurement processes.

Salary: 7000-10000 (estimated).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop an understanding of mechanical engineering responsibilities across conceptual design, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning stages.
  • Perform basic mechanical design calculations, analyses, and equipment‑related engineering tasks.
  • Complete routine assignments under close supervision and technical mentoring.
  • Prepare clear design calculations, analysis notes, technical reports, procedures, and supporting documents.
  • Organize assigned work to meet deadlines established by lead engineers and project management.
  • Communicate technical information clearly and ask questions when instructions or requirements need clarification.
  • Become familiar with project quality systems, document control procedures, engineering workflows, and approval requirements.
  • Assist with specifying simple mechanical equipment based on process conditions and project requirements.
  • Support equipment selection for static, rotating, packaged, and special mechanical systems.
  • Apply approved discipline procedures, engineering practices, project specifications, and international standards.
  • Prepare and update mechanical equipment data sheets under senior engineer guidance.
  • Assist with equipment calculations, technical evaluations, and basic design checks.
  • Provide relevant mechanical information to piping, process, electrical, instrumentation, structural, civil, and other disciplines.
  • Respond to routine interdisciplinary requests with guidance from experienced engineers.
  • Prepare data sheet sketches, equipment modifications, outline drawings, and other basic drafting deliverables.
  • Review supplier and manufacturer drawings, documents, calculations, and technical submissions.
  • Support the review of inspection and test procedures submitted by vendors.
  • Track vendor comments and help verify that revised documents address project requirements.
  • Assist Mechanical Engineers and Buyers with technical and commercial bid evaluations.
  • Compare supplier offers against requisitions, equipment specifications, data sheets, and project requirements.
  • Help prepare technical clarification requests for incomplete or noncompliant vendor submissions.
  • Support the preparation of material requisitions and purchase documentation for mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain organized records of calculations, data sheets, vendor documents, review comments, and technical correspondence.
  • Incorporate approved review comments into engineering deliverables.
  • Develop familiarity with equipment fabrication, inspection, testing, preservation, transportation, and installation requirements.
  • Follow Health, Safety, and Environment requirements when making engineering decisions.
  • Consider equipment accessibility, maintainability, safety, reliability, and lifecycle requirements during design work.
  • Maintain awareness of project schedules, engineering manhours, equipment costs, and procurement lead times.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, buyers, suppliers, manufacturers, and project personnel.
  • Support colleagues and supervisors during periods of increased workload.
  • Adapt to new project procedures, working methods, software applications, and technical responsibilities.
  • Participate in training, mentoring, design reviews, and professional development activities.
  • Complete proper handovers when assignments are transferred to another engineer or department.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor 's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Master 's Degree in Engineering is preferred.
  • 0-3 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Recent graduates with relevant internships, academic projects, or equipment engineering exposure may be considered.
  • Engineer in Training registration or membership in a recognized professional engineering society is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles and equipment design.
  • Interest in static equipment, rotating machinery, packaged systems, and special equipment.
  • Familiarity with engineering calculations, equipment data sheets, technical specifications, and vendor documentation.
  • Willingness to learn applicable international codes, standards, and project guidelines.
  • Ability to interpret basic engineering drawings, process information, and equipment documentation.
  • Good written and spoken English at approximately B2 level or higher.
