Role Context

The Senior Coastal Engineer will take technical responsibility for coastal engineering packages from investigation and concept development through detailed design and project delivery.
Working within Parsons ' ports and marine team, the engineer will address shoreline stability, wave and current conditions, erosion, scour, marine infrastructure performance, and environmental loading.
The position combines advanced engineering analysis with design leadership, helping projects achieve safe, practical, and regulation-compliant solutions suited to demanding coastal environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs for coastal protection structures including breakwaters, revetments, and associated shoreline defenses.
• Design beach stabilization and coastal management solutions incorporating groynes and other appropriate protection measures.
• Engineer scour protection systems for marine structures and infrastructure exposed to hydraulic and coastal forces.
• Prepare designs for seawater intake and outfall structures considering hydraulic performance and marine conditions.
• Define technical specifications for bathymetric surveys and manage survey activities required for project development.
• Inspect existing coastal structures, evaluate their physical condition, and identify deterioration, performance limitations, or rehabilitation requirements.
• Contribute technical requirements and specifications for marine geotechnical investigations.
• Direct the application of advanced hydrodynamic modelling tools, including the MIKE 21 suite, for coastal engineering studies and design decisions.
• Act as the discipline Project Coastal Engineer, taking ownership of coastal design development and technical coordination.
• Plan and supervise engineering activities while controlling design schedules, technical quality, and resource expenditure.
• Guide engineers and design personnel through complex calculations, design reviews, technical problem-solving, and project delivery.
• Check marine and coastal engineering designs against applicable codes, regulations, project criteria, and authority requirements.
• Coordinate technical interfaces with other engineering disciplines involved in ports, marine, infrastructure, and waterfront projects.
• Prepare engineering reports, technical papers, design documentation, specifications, and professional presentations.
• Maintain awareness of developing coastal engineering technologies, analytical methods, design standards, and professional practices.
