Job summary

Inhabit is seeking a Structural Engineer to manage, inspect, evaluate and coordinate all structural engineering activities associated with our facilities.

The role includes inspections, corrective maintenance, repair works, technical assessments, method statement reviews, contractor coordination, quality control and preparation of engineering documentation for submission to the Client, Consultant and relevant authorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Professional engineering certification or chartered status preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of overall structural engineering experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of practical experience in bridge, marine, infrastructure or heavy structural‑steel projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of UAE experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience with RTA projects, bridge maintenance or movable bridge systems will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out detailed structural inspections of steel bridge elements, box girders, pontoons, machinery pits, concrete structures, access platforms, ladders, supports and associated bridge components.
  • Identify structural defects, deterioration, corrosion, cracking, deformation, water leakage, coating failures, concrete spalling and other maintenance‑related issues.
  • Prepare inspection reports, technical assessments, condition reports and repair recommendations.
  • Develop and review repair methodologies for structural steel, reinforced concrete, bridge components and marine structures.
  • Review structural drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, inspection and test plans, risk assessments and technical calculations.
  • Coordinate corrective maintenance and planned maintenance work orders from initiation through execution, inspection, approval and closure.
  • Monitor the progress of structural work orders and ensure that activities are completed within the approved programme.
  • Supervise structural repair works, including steel plate replacement, welding repairs, strengthening, crack repair, concrete repair, grouting, protective coating and anti‑carbonation coating.
  • Review welding procedures, WPS, PQR, welder qualifications and NDT requirements.
  • Verify structural steel fabrication, erection, dimensional accuracy, bolt tightening, welding quality and surface preparation.
  • Coordinate non‑destructive testing, including ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, dye penetrant testing and thickness measurements.
  • Review material test certificates and ensure compliance with approved specifications and applicable standards.
  • Prepare technical proposals, repair sketches, scope of work, bills of quantities and cost estimates for corrective maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and PLC/SCADA engineers where structural works interface with bridge operating systems.
  • Liaise with the Client, Consultant, specialist subcontractors, suppliers and internal project teams.
  • Attend site meetings, technical coordination meetings, inspections and progress‑review meetings.
  • Prepare technical presentations and progress reports for submission to the Client.
  • Ensure all works comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality requirements, safety procedures and project standards.
  • Maintain proper engineering records, inspection reports, photographs, test reports, approvals and work‑order closure documentation.
  • Support emergency inspections and urgent structural assessments whenever required.
  • Assist the Project Manager in programme monitoring, resource planning, risk identification and recovery planning.

Job Description
