Role Context
The Quality Specialist - Grocery Operations will support the MENA Grocery team by helping maintain a high quality bar for fresh and perishable categories. The role focuses on inbound inspection, vendor quality control, damaged item rejection, picking and packing audits, packaging standard monitoring, bin inspections, associate training, and process improvement. By improving perishable quality, the position helps increase customer satisfaction, reduce expiry and damage losses, strengthen buying efficiency, and support the growth of Amazon Ultra‑Fast‑Grocery services.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the quality of meat, seafood, fruits, vegetables, eggs, and other perishable items during inbound activity at Amazon stores, hubs, and vendor sites.
- Inspect fresh products against approved quality specifications and reject damaged, defective, expired, or unacceptable items back to vendors.
- Record rejected items by product, vendor, quantity, defect type, and inspection outcome to support quality tracking and vendor performance review.
- Audit product quality during picking and packing activities performed by LPC associates.
- Monitor packaging standards during packing to ensure perishable items are protected, presented properly, and handled according to quality expectations.
- Conduct daily bin audits and share daily or weekly quality reports with relevant stakeholders.
- Train store and hub associates on quality standards, SOPs, packaging requirements, product handling, and inspection expectations.
- Support vendors in improving their operations so they consistently meet Amazon's quality standards for perishable grocery categories.
- Work with instock managers, vendor managers, store operations managers, and fulfillment partners to resolve quality issues and reduce product damage.
- Identify recurring quality problems and recommend process improvements that reduce expiry, shrinkage, defects, and customer dissatisfaction.
- Use inspection data, rejection reports, and operational feedback to highlight trends and improvement opportunities.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings and provide clear updates on quality performance, vendor issues, packaging gaps, and corrective actions.
- Support automation and process improvement initiatives that improve quality reporting, inspection accuracy, and operational follow‑up.
- Maintain accuracy in quality data handling, reporting, documentation, and communication with internal and external teams.
- Travel to stores, hubs, vendor locations, or market sites when operational requirements demand quality checks or stakeholder follow-up.
- Support weekend operations when required while remaining within the approved weekly working hours.
Ideal Profile (Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in written and oral communication across technical, business, and executive audiences.
- Experience in grocery quality, food safety, fresh produce inspection, perishable handling, retail food operations, vendor quality control, or warehouse quality auditing.
- Strong knowledge of fruits and vegetable quality specifications.
- Familiarity with Dubai fruit and vegetable market operations, including Al Aweer Central Fruit Market, is highly valuable.
- HACCP certification is required.
- PIC3 Person In Charge certification by Dubai Municipality is required.
- Knowledge of ISO22000 and GMP standards is required.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to inspect products carefully, identify defects, and make practical quality decisions during live operations.
- Detail‑oriented approach with excellent accuracy in quality reporting, rejection tracking, and operational documentation.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships with vendors, associates, managers, and fulfillment partners.
- Problem‑solving mindset with ability to identify root causes and implement process improvements.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure while communicating clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
- Willingness to take initiative, handle additional responsibilities, support daily operations, and travel when needed.
- Experience in a fast‑paced, high‑tech, grocery, retail, fulfillment, or food operations environment is preferred.
- Experience communicating with senior management and customers verbally and in writing is preferred.
