Role Context
Fresh product quality directly affects customer trust, repeat purchasing, waste levels, and the overall performance of ultra-fast grocery operations. The Quality Specialist will help protect these areas by monitoring product condition from inbound receipt through picking and packing. The role combines daily inspection work with vendor coordination, operational reporting, associate training, process improvement, and stakeholder collaboration. By identifying defects early and improving quality controls, the specialist will help reduce avoidable losses while supporting a stronger customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect meat, seafood, fruits, vegetables, eggs, and other perishable products during inbound receiving.
- Conduct quality checks at Amazon stores, hubs, and vendor sites against defined product specifications.
- Reject damaged, defective, spoiled, or otherwise non-compliant products and coordinate their return to vendors.
- Record rejected products accurately by item, vendor, quantity, and quality issue.
- Audit fresh product quality during picking and packing activities performed by store associates.
- Check packaging practices to ensure products are protected during handling and customer order preparation.
- Perform daily bin audits covering storage conditions, product quality, handling, and organization.
- Prepare daily and weekly quality reports for relevant operational and commercial stakeholders.
- Train store and hub associates on quality requirements, standard operating procedures, product handling, and packaging practices.
- Work with vendors to improve incoming product quality and reduce repeated defects.
- Investigate quality trends contributing to customer complaints, damaged goods, or premature expiry.
- Collaborate with instock managers, vendor managers, store operations teams, and fulfillment partners.
- Participate in stakeholder discussions and provide practical observations from daily quality operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve inspection methods, reporting processes, quality controls, and operational efficiency.
- Support automation and process improvement initiatives that make recurring quality activities more consistent and scalable.
- Maintain accurate data while handling multiple operational priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Travel between operational or vendor locations when required.
- Support weekend operations when necessary while remaining within the defined 40-hour working week.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's degree.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications in an operational environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Practical knowledge of food safety and fresh product quality standards.
- Familiarity with HACCP principles.
- Understanding of ISO 22000 food safety management requirements.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Strong understanding of fruit and vegetable quality specifications.
- Able to identify freshness, damage, spoilage, packaging, and handling issues accurately.
- Comfortable communicating with vendors, operational teams, and senior stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail when handling inspection records and quality reports.
- Capable of managing several assignments without losing accuracy or missing deadlines.
- Able to remain calm and solution-focused when quality issues require immediate action.
- Willing to take initiative and support additional responsibilities when business needs change.
