Overview
McDermott International, Ltd is hiring a detail‑focused specialist to strengthen QHSES governance, monitor operational performance, support fabrication yard and EPC project compliance, and improve the reliability of business processes.
Context
The QHSES Assurance Specialist will support the effectiveness of quality, health, safety, environmental, and security assurance activities across fabrication yard operations and project functions. The role applies established audit methods, management system requirements, data analysis, Lean principles, and problem‑solving techniques to identify deficiencies and support sustainable corrective action. Working with moderate guidance, the specialist will perform planned audits, maintain performance indicators, review controlled documents, administer the electronic document management system, and assist process owners in improving operational consistency.
The position also supports management system integration, policy revision, governance reviews, and the communication of assurance results to site and business leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct monthly QHSES and management system audits in accordance with approved audit plans.
- Prepare accurate audit reports and communicate results, findings, observations, and required actions within agreed reporting periods.
- Update existing procedures and assist with the preparation of new policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Review management system documentation for accuracy, consistency, governance compliance, and operational usability.
- Develop statistical tools and analytical methods for monitoring key performance indicators, quality indicators, cost of quality, and other operational measures.
- Maintain and publish agreed KPI, QI, and COQ reports for fabrication yard functions, projects, and management teams.
- Produce monthly and quarterly performance reports in approved electronic and printed formats.
- Analyze operational data, audit findings, process trends, and recurring deficiencies to identify improvement priorities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to perform effective root cause analysis and define corrective actions.
- Facilitate process improvement teams involving specialists, process owners, managers, and operational personnel.
- Apply structured problem‑solving techniques, Lean tools, process mapping, and data analysis to resolve performance issues.
- Recommend practical changes that improve process control, quality, efficiency, and standardization.
- Define best practices and encourage consistent compliance with approved procedures and workflows.
- Coach process owners in trend analysis, performance measurement, and data‑driven decision‑making.
- Assess processes against defined quality standards and recommend measurable improvements.
- Verify the sustainability of process improvements through 30‑day, 60‑day, and 90‑day follow‑up audits.
- Confirm that corrective actions remain effective before recommending final closure.
- Work with functional leadership to monitor and validate new or modified process outputs.
- Support the maintenance and improvement of management systems through scheduled reviews and controlled revisions.
- Present management system findings, performance trends, and improvement results to site and business leadership.
- Represent the Quality department on assigned operational, integration, and improvement projects.
- Support companywide quality assurance initiatives, audits, governance reviews, and management system implementation.
Management System Documentation
- Perform quality assurance reviews of management system documents within specified review‑cycle periods.
- Verify that policies, procedures, templates, and work instructions comply with governance requirements.
- Coordinate document reviews and expedite approvals through the required workflow.
- Publish controlled documents after final authorization.
- Maintain the central repository for documents submitted by functional users.
- Check document metadata and system attributes to support accurate EDMS reporting.
- Process document voids, superseded versions, withdrawals, and deletions in the electronic document management system.
- Ensure obsolete documents are removed from active use and properly retained where required.
- Support the design, implementation, and enforcement of approved company document templates.
- Advise functional teams on document structure, content clarity, workflow, and repository organization.
- Format management system integration documents and circulate them for stakeholder approval.
- Incorporate approved integration documents into relevant management systems.
- Report management system activity through bi‑weekly and monthly intranet updates.
- Maintain traceable records of document reviews, approvals, revisions, and publication dates.
EDMS Administration and Training
- Administer the electronic document management system in accordance with company procedures.
- Provide EDMS orientation and training to new employees and functional users.
- Assign appropriate system access rights after required training has been completed.
- Help users apply document naming, classification, revision, approval, and retention requirements.
- Monitor document workflow status and follow up with reviewers and approvers to prevent delays.
- Resolve routine EDMS issues and elevate technical or governance concerns when necessary.
- Improve system use by sharing practical guidance and standardised document control practices.
- Coordinate with functional users to maintain accurate, current, and accessible management system documentation.
Process Improvement and Assurance
- Use analytical and logical methods to investigate process failures, audit findings, and operational inefficiencies.
- Apply Lean and continuous improvement principles to streamline workflows and eliminate unnecessary activities.
- Translate complex technical information into clear written instructions, process maps, presentations, and training material.
- Use stakeholder feedback to refine proposed solutions and improve implementation effectiveness.
- Design or revise workflows and procedures based on business requirements, risk, and performance data.
- Support process owners in defining measurable outputs and appropriate monitoring controls.
- Facilitate corrective action reviews and confirm that assigned responsibilities and deadlines are clear.
- Track improvement actions and report overdue or ineffective responses to relevant leadership.
- Encourage a culture of process ownership, disciplined execution, evidence‑based decisions, and continual improvement.
- Deliver positive monthly performance indicators related to assigned productivity and assurance responsibilities.
Ideal Profile
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in EPC construction, fabrication, engineering, energy, or a comparable industrial environment.
- Practical experience with quality assurance, management systems, internal audits, document governance, or process improvement.
- ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 auditor or internal auditor training.
- Familiarity with other internationally recognised quality and management system standards.
- Strong understanding of Lean and continuous improvement concepts, principles, and practical applications.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and support effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Experience developing workflows, procedures, work instructions, templates, or training material.
- Broad knowledge of management systems and supporting software platforms.
- Experience administering or using an electronic document management system.
- Strong analytical ability with the capacity to interpret complex data, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Ability to combine professional judgement and experience with quantitative performance information.
- Strong attention to detail when reviewing documents, system attributes, audit evidence, and reports.
- Ability to simplify complex concepts into clear written and visual instructions.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Confidence communicating with employees, process owners, managers, and senior leadership.
