The Primary Homeroom Teacher will take responsibility for the learning, progress, behaviour, and well-being of an assigned class at Virginia American School. The position requires effective curriculum planning, differentiated teaching, assessment, parent communication, and collaboration with curriculum support staff and other professionals where required. The successful candidate will also contribute to the broader life of the school through curriculum action groups, extracurricular activities, school events, and ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

• Demonstrate a clear understanding of the curriculum.
• Organize classroom provision, learning resources, and displays to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
• Plan, prepare, and present lessons that meet the needs of students across the full ability range.
• Motivate pupils through enthusiastic and imaginative teaching.
• Observe and assess children in accordance with school assessment procedures.
• Reflect on classroom provision, lessons delivered, and student progress.
• Adjust the learning environment, planning, and curriculum in response to student development and identified needs.
• Meet with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, and other professionals where required.
• Embed the Virginia American School Teacher and Learner DNA language and attitudes throughout the curriculum.

Assessment and Data

• Take responsibility for the progress of the assigned class.
• Meet school requirements for assessing and recording student development using Target Tracker.
• Use assessment data to inform future planning, classroom provision, and intervention.
• Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies where appropriate.
• Provide parents and carers with feedback on student progress during Parent Teacher Conferences and other meetings.

Behaviour Management and Duties

• Follow the school 's behaviour policy.
• Manage the class effectively using approaches appropriate to students ' needs.
• Inspire, motivate, and challenge pupils while maintaining a productive learning environment.
• Maintain positive relationships with students and exercise appropriate authority.
• Act decisively when required in accordance with the school 's behaviour policy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor 's degree in a related subject with PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.

Experience

• Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Classroom Teacher in the American Curriculum.
