Role Context
The Physical Education Teacher will take responsibility for both the academic and practical dimensions of Secondary PE, ensuring students make measurable progress while developing positive attitudes towards sport, exercise and healthy living. The position requires an educator who can move confidently between curriculum teaching, practical coaching, assessment and competitive sports preparation. A significant element of the role involves motivating Secondary boys with different levels of sporting ability. The teacher will provide appropriate challenge for talented athletes while adapting activities for students who require additional learning or physical support, ensuring participation remains safe, purposeful and inclusive.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver challenging Secondary PE lessons aligned with the National Curriculum for England.
- Develop physical competence, fitness, coordination, tactical understanding and sporting confidence.
- Establish clear progression in physical knowledge and skills across the Secondary phase.
- Differentiate activities for varying abilities, including students with additional learning or physical needs.
- Use appropriate teaching and coaching methods to maximise participation and student progress.
- Set high expectations for behaviour, effort, teamwork and sporting achievement.
- Promote leadership, resilience, discipline, respect and sportsmanship through practical learning.
- Maintain schemes of work, lesson plans and PE resources in line with departmental requirements.
- Contribute to curriculum evaluation and improvement within the PE department.
- Conduct examinations and other required assessments.
- Assess, record and monitor student attainment against curriculum expectations.
- Use performance data to identify strengths, learning gaps and students requiring intervention.
- Provide timely feedback and help students establish realistic physical and sporting development targets.
- Participate in moderation, reporting and departmental assessment processes.
- Coach school teams and prepare students for competitive fixtures and tournaments.
- Organise and supervise training sessions, matches, competitions and sporting events when required.
- Contribute actively to extracurricular sport and broader physical activity programmes.
- Encourage healthy competition while maintaining opportunities for broad student participation.
- Support sporting activities outside normal lesson hours where required.
- Conduct appropriate checks of sports facilities and equipment before activities begin.
- Complete and follow relevant risk assessments and emergency procedures.
- Maintain effective supervision during lessons, training, fixtures and events.
- Report injuries, accidents, safeguarding concerns and other incidents through established procedures.
- Promote physical wellbeing, active lifestyles and positive attitudes towards exercise.
- Monitor sports equipment and identify maintenance or replacement requirements.
- Support appropriate storage, organisation and inventory control of PE resources.
- Collaborate with pastoral teams and other departments to support students ' broader development.
- Participate in departmental meetings, professional development and school improvement activities.
- Follow GEMS policies, safeguarding requirements, UAE regulations and professional standards.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's degree in Physical Education.
- Master 's degree in Physical Education as specified for the position.
- Relevant experience teaching Physical Education at Secondary level.
- Strong practical knowledge of sport, fitness and physical development.
- Ability to motivate and inspire Secondary boys.
- Effective classroom management and sports coaching capability.
- Experience differentiating physical activities for students with varying abilities.
- Strong understanding of student assessment and progress monitoring in PE.
