Role Context

The Primary PE Teacher will help younger students build the movement skills, confidence, coordination, fitness, teamwork, and positive attitudes that form the foundation of lifelong physical activity. The role combines curriculum teaching with practical coaching, student wellbeing, extracurricular sport, and contribution to the broader school community. At GEMS FirstPoint School, the teacher will work within a British curriculum environment supported by extensive sports facilities and a strong professional learning culture. For suitably qualified candidates, the position may also provide access to additional responsibilities in curriculum leadership, pastoral leadership, extracurricular coordination, or careers-related programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging Primary Physical Education lessons aligned with the school curriculum and British educational expectations.
  • Develop students ' physical literacy through age-appropriate movement, coordination, balance, agility, fitness, games, and sporting activities.
  • Create enjoyable learning experiences that encourage children to participate confidently and develop positive attitudes toward physical activity.
  • Adapt activities for students with different abilities, experience levels, physical development needs, and learning requirements.
  • Establish clear expectations for safe participation, teamwork, behaviour, effort, and respect during lessons.
  • Use varied teaching, coaching, demonstration, and assessment approaches to help students improve progressively.
  • Monitor physical development and provide constructive feedback that supports individual improvement.
  • Plan a broad and balanced PE curriculum that develops skills across different sports, movement activities, and age groups.
  • Promote teamwork, resilience, cooperation, leadership, sportsmanship, and healthy competition.
  • Encourage students to understand the importance of exercise, fitness, wellbeing, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Maintain appropriate lesson plans, curriculum resources, assessment records, and evidence of student progress.
  • Work collaboratively with Primary teachers, PE colleagues, pastoral teams, and school leaders to support wider student development.
  • Contribute actively to sports clubs, extracurricular activities, fixtures, competitions, enrichment programmes, and school events.
  • Support the preparation and delivery of sports days, tournaments, inter-house activities, and other physical education initiatives.
  • Ensure equipment and facilities are used safely and appropriately during all activities.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, risk assessment, and student supervision procedures.
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the wider school community.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, school improvement activities, and collaborative curriculum planning.
  • Undertake additional middle leadership responsibilities where appointed, which may include Curriculum Leadership, Head of Year, ECA Coordination, or Head of Careers.
Ideal Profile
  • Candidates should hold a bachelor 's or master 's degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Primary Education, or a closely related subject.
  • A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, QTS, or equivalent is required.
  • Applicants should have experience teaching Physical Education within the Primary phase, with previous British curriculum experience strongly preferred.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and the ability to design engaging physical education experiences appropriate to younger learners.
  • Strong understanding of physical literacy, child development, movement progression, and inclusive PE teaching is important.
  • Candidates should be able to motivate students of different abilities while creating a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, together with the willingness to contribute actively to extracurricular sport and the wider life of the school.
