Role Context
The Physical Education Teacher will support the physical, social, and personal development of Key Stage 2 pupils through a balanced programme of sport, movement, fitness, and skill development. The position requires careful lesson planning, effective differentiation, safe use of facilities and equipment, and the ability to motivate pupils with different abilities and interests. The role also contributes to broader student wellbeing by promoting resilience, leadership, cooperation, sportsmanship, healthy habits, and positive participation in physical activity.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver purposeful and appropriately challenging Physical Education lessons aligned with the British Curriculum and school expectations.
- Develop pupils ' coordination, movement skills, physical fitness, confidence, and understanding of healthy lifestyles.
- Provide varied sporting and physical activities suitable for different ages, abilities, and interests.
- Ensure clear progression of physical skills and knowledge across Key Stage 2.
- Adapt teaching, activities, and resources to meet the needs of pupils with different ability levels and additional learning requirements.
- Create a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation, effort, enjoyment, and personal improvement.
- Use a range of practical teaching strategies to maintain active learning and strong pupil engagement.
- Promote teamwork, leadership, resilience, respect, fair play, and sportsmanship through lessons and sporting activities.
- Assess pupil progress and use observations and performance information to guide future lesson planning.
- Give constructive feedback that helps pupils improve technique, understanding, fitness, and confidence.
- Maintain effective classroom and behaviour management during indoor and outdoor PE activities.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of pupils during lessons, sporting activities, and use of school facilities.
- Conduct appropriate risk assessments and follow established procedures for sports areas, equipment, and activities.
- Check that PE equipment is used responsibly, safely, and appropriately for each activity.
- Follow school safeguarding, child protection, behaviour, and health and safety procedures at all times.
- Maintain suitable pupil supervision throughout lessons, transitions, and sporting activities.
- Work collaboratively with teaching colleagues and wider school teams to support curriculum delivery and pupil development.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's or Master 's degree in Physical Education.
- Sound knowledge of British Curriculum expectations for Physical Education at Key Stage 2.
- Practical experience planning and delivering age-appropriate PE lessons.
- Strong understanding of physical skill progression, fitness, movement, and safe participation.
- Ability to differentiate activities for pupils with varying levels of confidence, ability, and additional learning needs.
- Effective behaviour management skills in both classroom and practical sporting environments.
- Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal capabilities.
- Confident approach to supervising pupils during active lessons and sporting activities.
- Understanding of risk assessment and safe use of sports equipment and facilities.
