Responsibilities

The Operating Theatre Nurse supports patients throughout the surgical pathway, from theatre preparation and preoperative assessment through intraoperative assistance and postoperative handover.
Working within a multidisciplinary surgical team, the nurse helps maintain efficient theatre operations while protecting patients through precise clinical practice, sterile procedures, accurate documentation, and compliance with established safety protocols.
The position offers exposure to general surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, gynaecology, and a variety of day surgery procedures.
- Deliver safe and effective perioperative nursing care according to approved clinical standards and individual patient requirements.
- Prepare operating theatres before procedures, ensuring instruments, equipment, sterile supplies, and consumables are correctly arranged and available.
- Perform scrub and circulating nursing duties during surgical procedures according to competency and assigned responsibilities.
- Assist surgeons, anaesthetists, and other clinical professionals throughout operative procedures.
- Complete patient assessments and verify essential clinical information before surgery.
- Maintain sterile fields and apply stringent aseptic techniques throughout theatre activities.
- Anticipate the requirements of surgeons and the wider operating theatre team to support efficient procedures.
- Follow surgical safety checklist requirements and promptly escalating identified risks or discrepancies.
- Monitor patients across the perioperative journey and communicate relevant clinical information during transfers and handovers.
- Apply infection prevention measures and DHA requirements within all theatre activities.
- Maintain complete and accurate nursing records using EMR and clinical documentation systems.
- Assist with operating theatre stock control, consumable availability, and appropriate management of surgical equipment.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and patient safety programmes.
- Help ensure equipment is maintained, checked, and ready for scheduled surgical activity.
- Work collaboratively across surgical specialties while maintaining professional communication with patients and clinical colleagues.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an equivalent recognised nursing qualification.
- Valid DHA license as a Registered Nurse.
- Current BLS certification is essential.
- ACLS certification is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of operating theatre nursing experience.
- Practical scrub nursing or circulating nursing experience within an operating theatre.
- Previous employment in an acute care hospital, surgical centre, or day surgery setting.
- Sound knowledge of perioperative nursing, aseptic technique, infection prevention, and surgical patient safety.
- Experience with EMR systems and electronic clinical documentation platforms.
- Nurses experienced in both scrub and circulating functions are particularly suited to this position.
- Exposure to multiple surgical specialties and previous UAE healthcare experience are advantageous.
- Day surgery centre experience and immediate availability are highly desirable.
- Strong clinical communication and the ability to coordinate effectively within multidisciplinary surgical teams.
