Role Context The MEP General Manager will provide executive-level operational leadership across the electromechanical business, translating strategic objectives into profitable and consistently delivered project outcomes. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role will oversee the full operating cycle from engineering and procurement through construction, commercial management, project controls, quality assurance, safety, and final delivery. The position carries direct responsibility for business performance as well as project execution. Success will depend on balancing schedule commitments, cash flow, margins, resource utilization, client expectations, contractual exposure, and technical standards across multiple concurrent projects while maintaining strong governance and accountability throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct overall MEP business operations and ensure effective execution across a portfolio of active projects.
- Convert corporate objectives into practical operating strategies, annual priorities, and measurable performance targets.
- Lead project delivery teams to achieve agreed programme, budget, quality, and contractual requirements.
- Monitor project profitability, revenue recognition, cash flow, cost performance, and resource utilization.
- Review operational performance across engineering, procurement, construction, commercial, QA/QC, HSE, and project management functions.
- Establish clear accountability among department heads and project leaders for delivery, financial performance, and risk.
- Oversee project planning frameworks and ensure programmes accurately reflect design, procurement, construction, testing, and handover requirements.
- Define and monitor program and project control KPIs covering schedule, cost, productivity, quality, safety, and commercial performance.
- Review schedule deviations and lead development of recovery plans for projects at risk of delay.
- Evaluate critical interfaces between MEP disciplines, civil works, architectural packages, suppliers, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure engineering strategies support constructability, procurement requirements, commissioning, and project delivery objectives.
- Review procurement performance for major equipment, long-lead materials, subcontract packages, and specialist services.
- Monitor commercial exposure including variations, claims, contractual notices, payment issues, and project cost movements.
- Lead resolution of major contractual and commercial matters in coordination with legal and commercial teams.
- Review project forecasts and take corrective action where margins, cash flow, or delivery commitments are under pressure.
- Maintain executive oversight of project risk registers and ensure significant technical, commercial, contractual, and operational risks are mitigated.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and relevant government authorities.
- Represent the MEP business in senior client meetings, negotiations, performance reviews, and strategic discussions.
- Ensure operations comply with approved company policies, statutory requirements, contractual obligations, and applicable UAE regulations.
- Maintain adherence to ISO management systems and drive consistent quality processes across projects.
- Ensure HSE standards are embedded within project planning and execution and that leadership teams actively manage safety performance.
- Review major quality concerns, non-conformities, commissioning issues, and technical failures requiring senior intervention.
- Lead and assess department heads, project directors, project managers, and functional leadership teams.
- Develop leadership capability and strengthen succession planning across the organization.
- Promote a performance culture built around accountability, collaboration, operational discipline, and measurable improvement.
- Drive standardization of project delivery processes and identify opportunities to improve productivity and reduce operational waste.
- Support business growth by assessing capacity, execution readiness, commercial risk, and resource requirements for new opportunities.
- Provide senior management and the CEO with accurate reporting on business performance, project status, financial outlook, and emerging risks.
- Make timely executive decisions on resources, priorities, corrective actions, and critical project interventions.
- Ensure lessons learned from completed and active projects are incorporated into future operational planning.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 20-25 years of progressive experience in the Construction and electromechanical industry.
- Significant senior management experience leading major MEP contracting operations or complex multi-project portfolios.
- Proven track record delivering large residential, commercial, mixed-use, or infrastructure-related MEP projects.
- Strong command of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and integrated building services delivery.
- Experienced in managing engineering, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover functions.
- Deep understanding of project financial management, budgeting, profitability, cash flow, and forecasting.
- Strong commercial knowledge covering contracts, variations, claims, subcontract management, and cost control.
- Experienced in program planning, schedule recovery, interface management, and project controls.
- Comfortable managing major contractual, technical, commercial, and operational risks at executive level.
- Thorough understanding of QA/QC systems, ISO requirements, and construction HSE practices.
- Strong capability in client management, negotiation, dispute resolution, and senior stakeholder communication.
- Demonstrated ability to lead department heads and large multidisciplinary teams.
- Commercially decisive while maintaining strong engineering and delivery discipline.
- Able to manage competing project priorities across a large operational portfolio.
- PMP, MBA, Construction Management, or comparable postgraduate and professional qualifications are advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant construction, project controls, and management information systems.
- Valid UAE driving license is preferred.
- Fluency in English is required.
