Job summary

Azizi Developments is seeking a senior Material Engineer for Mechanical MEP Systems in Dubai. You will specialize in material selection, testing, and QA/QC across Fire Fighting, Plumbing, HVAC, and LPG systems for high-rise residential developments.

Based in the Central Technical Office, you will evaluate materials before procurement, support value engineering, ensure regulatory compliance, and coordinate with design, procurement, and construction teams to maintain project schedules and quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 10+ years in mechanical construction materials and QA/QC.

Role Context

The Material Engineer will operate within the Central Technical Office and provide specialist mechanical material expertise across design, procurement, QA/QC, and construction activities. The position is responsible for evaluating materials before procurement and installation, resolving technical compliance issues, maintaining testing documentation, and supporting value engineering decisions that improve performance without compromising design intent or statutory requirements. Working across large residential and high-rise developments, the engineer will help ensure mechanical systems are supported by technically compliant, commercially practical, and durable material selections throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the technical selection, assessment, testing, and quality assurance of mechanical materials used across MEP construction projects.
  • Evaluate materials associated with Fire Fighting, Plumbing, HVAC, and LPG systems against approved project specifications and design requirements.
  • Review mechanical material submittals, technical data sheets, compliance statements, samples, certificates, and supporting documentation before approval.
  • Verify that proposed products comply with relevant codes, regulatory requirements, consultant criteria, and project performance standards.
  • Assess material suitability with consideration for operating conditions, durability, compatibility, maintainability, and intended sequence of operations.
  • Coordinate closely with Design teams to resolve technical queries relating to mechanical material specifications and system requirements.
  • Work with Procurement teams to ensure technically approved materials are sourced within project timelines.
  • Support Construction teams by clarifying material requirements and resolving site-related material compliance concerns.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC personnel regarding inspections, testing requirements, certificates, approvals, and non-conformance issues.
  • Maintain organized records covering material approvals, laboratory tests, manufacturer documentation, inspection results, and technical evaluations.
  • Monitor the approval status of critical mechanical materials to prevent delays to procurement and site installation.
  • Review alternative products and manufacturers where substitutions or technical alternatives are proposed.
  • Contribute to value engineering studies by identifying materials that can improve cost efficiency, constructability, lifecycle performance, or sustainability.
  • Evaluate proposed substitutions without compromising required quality, system performance, or regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in technical coordination with contractors, consultants, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Support resolution of material-related issues arising during procurement, delivery, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Verify consistency between approved material specifications and products delivered for project use.
  • Provide technical input for mechanical systems covering piping, valves, pumps, fittings, equipment, insulation, ductwork, accessories, and related components.
  • Assist project teams in maintaining uniform mechanical material standards across multiple developments.
  • Contribute technical knowledge to Central Technical Office initiatives aimed at improving project quality, standardization, and engineering efficiency.
Ideal Profile

Bachelor 's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. The position requires more than 10 years of relevant engineering experience with substantial involvement in mechanical construction materials, technical submittals, material approvals, testing, and quality compliance. Candidates should have professional experience gained within both contracting and consultancy environments, providing a balanced understanding of design requirements and construction execution. A strong background in UAE residential and high-rise construction projects is important, together with practical knowledge of local project standards, consultant approval processes, and mechanical building services. The successful candidate should demonstrate detailed technical understanding of Fire Fighting, Plumbing, HVAC, and LPG systems and the materials used throughout these installations. Experience evaluating manufacturers, technical specifications, test certificates, alternative materials, and project-specific performance requirements will be highly valuable. The role requires strong engineering judgment, particularly when balancing technical compliance, construction practicality, procurement availability, cost efficiency, and long-term system performance.
