Role Context
The Mechanical Design Engineer will convert project MEP requirements into practical, production-ready mechanical designs for prefabricated and modular POD systems. The role must consider not only system performance but also manufacturing sequence, access, equipment positioning, service connections, transportation limitations, installation tolerances, and final integration with site infrastructure. By resolving technical and coordination issues before fabrication begins, the engineer helps reduce rework, improve factory productivity, strengthen quality control, and support faster site installation across Azizi Developments projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems for prefabricated and modular POD applications.
- Prepare HVAC and plumbing layouts suitable for factory production and final site installation.
- Develop detailed mechanical drawings, schematics, schedules, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate mechanical design requirements with architectural, structural, electrical, and other MEP disciplines.
- Work closely with BIM teams to maintain fully coordinated multidisciplinary models.
- Identify clashes involving ductwork, pipework, equipment, structural elements, electrical services, and architectural features.
- Resolve design conflicts before mechanical information is released for production.
- Review project design criteria, specifications, authority requirements, and technical documentation.
- Ensure mechanical systems comply with applicable UAE codes, local standards, and project requirements.
- Develop designs that account for factory assembly, transportation, lifting, installation, and final site connections.
- Consider access, maintainability, service clearances, pipe routing, drainage falls, and equipment replacement requirements.
- Prepare coordinated mechanical interface details between individual PODs and central building systems.
- Review HVAC requirements including ventilation, air distribution, duct routing, equipment connections, and related components.
- Develop plumbing designs covering water supply, drainage, sanitary systems, fixtures, and associated connections.
- Review mechanical shop drawings for accuracy, coordination, and compliance.
- Assess material submittals and confirm suitability against approved specifications.
- Review equipment, fittings, valves, pipework, insulation, ducts, and other mechanical components.
- Coordinate with production teams to ensure designs can be manufactured efficiently.
- Respond to technical queries raised by factory and production personnel.
- Incorporate approved manufacturing feedback into drawings and design documentation.
- Support prototype and first-production POD reviews where required.
- Provide technical solutions when fabrication constraints or installation issues are identified.
- Coordinate with site teams regarding mechanical connections, tolerances, and installation sequencing.
- Conduct design reviews focused on constructability, efficiency, standardization, and practical execution.
- Identify opportunities to simplify mechanical systems without compromising performance or compliance.
- Support value engineering exercises for mechanical packages.
- Develop repeatable design solutions for standardized POD types where practical.
- Coordinate design changes and ensure approved revisions are incorporated into all related documentation.
- Maintain accurate revision records, drawing registers, and design files.
- Participate in BIM coordination meetings, technical workshops, and interdisciplinary design reviews.
- Support factory inspection and testing of mechanical systems.
- Assist with pressure testing, functional checks, and other mechanical verification activities where applicable.
- Support site inspection and commissioning requirements.
- Participate in troubleshooting during commissioning where mechanical systems require adjustment.
- Assist with preparation of handover records and as-built mechanical documentation.
- Coordinate with project, BIM, production, procurement, and site teams throughout the design and execution lifecycle.
- Maintain awareness of material availability and highlight specification issues that could affect manufacturing schedules.
