Job summary

Al-Futtaim Automotive in Dubai seeks a Marine Generator Technician - Power Systems to service and repair marine power generators and diagnose faults. You will diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, perform preventive maintenance, and support workshop and field assignments to maximize uptime.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years hands-on experience servicing and repairing power generators, preferably marine.
  • Experience with marine generators, diesel engines, alternators, control panels, wiring systems and field service operations.
  • Valid driving licence for travel to customer sites and varied work locations.
  • Clear spoken and written English is essential; Arabic language ability is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Independently diagnose mechanical and electrical faults affecting marine power generators and related systems.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance, scheduled servicing, component replacement, and corrective repairs in the workshop and at customer locations.
  • Test repaired generators and verify that mechanical, electrical, cooling, fuel, and control functions operate within specifications.
  • Prepare accurate service reports, inspection records, repair notes, time entries, and equipment condition updates.
  • Monitor productivity, repair quality, efficiency, and KPI targets; provide technical guidance to colleagues.

The Marine Generator Technician supports customers whose operations depend on reliable power-generation equipment. By diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults early, completing repairs correctly, and responding effectively to emergencies, the technician helps reduce equipment downtime, repeated service visits, and potential contractual penalties. The position requires practical judgment, disciplined reporting, and the flexibility to provide workshop, field, and emergency service support when operational conditions demand it.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently diagnose mechanical and electrical faults affecting marine power generators and related systems.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance, scheduled servicing, component replacement, and corrective repairs in the workshop and at customer locations.
  • Complete routine inspections that identify wear, developing failures, and additional repairs needed to maintain safe and dependable operation.
  • Interpret service manuals, scopes of work, wiring diagrams, technical specifications, and manufacturer repair instructions.
  • Apply approved tools, diagnostic methods, checklists, and standard operating procedures during every assignment.
  • Test repaired generators and verify that mechanical, electrical, cooling, fuel, and control functions operate within the required specifications.
  • Investigate recurring faults and implement practical solutions that reduce repeat service complaints and unnecessary rework.
  • Keep the Foreman, Service Advisor, and Service Manager informed about diagnostic findings, repair requirements, parts needs, and job progress.
  • Prepare accurate service reports, inspection records, repair notes, time entries, and equipment condition updates.
  • Monitor personal productivity, repair quality, efficiency indicators, rework levels, and assigned performance targets.
  • Provide technical guidance to colleagues and share field knowledge that improves workshop capability.
  • Build competence in newly introduced generator models, electrical controls, diagnostic systems, and associated marine products.
  • Maintain professional conduct at customer sites and protect the organization 's service quality and customer relationships.
  • Respond to urgent breakdowns and provide emergency technical support outside standard working hours when required.
  • Follow workplace safety practices while handling tools, electrical circuits, rotating equipment, batteries, fuel systems, and heavy generator components.
Ideal Profile

The preferred candidate has completed technical education, an apprenticeship, or a diploma related to generators, automotive engineering, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or a comparable discipline. Applicants should bring 5-10 years of hands‑on experience servicing and repairing power generators, with the ability to troubleshoot equipment without continuous supervision.
