Job Summary
The Power Generator Technician – Marine will maintain the reliability, safety, and operational availability of marine generator systems used by commercial and industrial customers. The technician will perform preventive servicing, fault diagnosis, component repair, emergency breakdown response, and technical reporting. Work is performed independently and in support of workshop leadership using service manuals, wiring diagrams, technical specifications, and approved procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults in marine power generators with minimal supervision.
- Perform scheduled servicing, preventive maintenance, inspection, repair, and component replacement.
- Use approved testing methods, service manuals, and wiring diagrams to diagnose generator performance problems.
- Complete first‑time‑right repairs where possible and minimise repeat service complaints.
- Identify developing faults before they result in equipment failure or prolonged downtime.
- Respond to field breakdowns and provide emergency technical assistance as required.
- Support 24‑hour service coverage according to operational requirements and duty schedules.
- Carry out workshop and on‑site repairs in accordance with safety and quality procedures.
- Follow statements of work, SOPs, service checklists, and manufacturer specifications.
- Use correct tools, testing equipment, and repair techniques to prevent damage and rework.
- Verify completed repairs through functional testing and operational performance checks.
- Maintain clear communication with the Foreman, Service Advisor, and Service Manager regarding faults, repair progress, parts requirements, and completion status.
- Prepare accurate job cards, inspection findings, and technical documentation.
- Monitor personal productivity, repair quality, repeat work, and performance indicators.
- Maintain a professional attitude and respectful conduct at customer sites.
- Protect customer equipment and work areas while performing service activities.
- Share technical knowledge with colleagues and support less experienced team members.
- Expand technical competence to cover newly introduced generator products and related equipment.
- Maintain tools, diagnostic devices, and workshop equipment in serviceable condition.
- Follow health, safety, environmental, and housekeeping requirements.
- Escalate complex technical faults when specialist support or additional approval is needed.
- Support the team in reducing unit downtime, operational disruption, and potential service penalties.
Ideal Profile
- Technical education, vocational training, or apprenticeship in a relevant mechanical or electrical discipline.
- Diploma in generator technology, automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of practical experience servicing and repairing power generators.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair generator faults independently.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical generator components.
- Experience interpreting wiring diagrams, workshop manuals, fault codes, and technical specifications.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance, component replacement, testing, and operational verification.
- Previous experience with marine generators or similar heavy‑duty power systems preferred.
- Good understanding of service quality standards and first‑time repair principles.
- Ability to work in workshops, customer locations, marine environments, and field conditions.
- Willingness to provide emergency or after‑hours service support when required.
- Strong English communication skills; Arabic language ability beneficial.
- Valid driving licence.
- Accurate reporting and record‑keeping ability.
