Role Context The Inclusion Assistant will work closely with individual pupils who require additional educational support, helping them participate meaningfully in classroom learning, specialist lessons, extracurricular activities, trips, and wider school life. The role supports individual education programmes and IEP goals while helping students develop academic ability, communication, social confidence, emotional regulation, behaviour, and greater independence. The Inclusion Assistant will collaborate with homeroom teachers, subject teachers, the Head of Inclusion, and specialist professionals to ensure support strategies are consistent and responsive to each student 's needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individual or small-group support to students inside and outside the classroom.
• Help pupils participate fully in academic, social, and school-based activities.
• Support implementation of individual education programmes linked to established IEP goals.
• Contribute to monitoring student progress, attainment, and response to interventions.
• Assist pupils with academic, physical, behavioural, emotional, social, or communication needs.
• Develop strategies that encourage students to become increasingly independent in their learning.
• Prepare differentiated materials and classroom resources that help identified pupils access the curriculum.
• Work closely with homeroom and subject teachers to understand lesson objectives and required student support.
• Provide individual instruction as directed by the teacher.
• Support small-group teaching activities where appropriate.
• Demonstrate instructional tasks or classroom activities when required.
• Monitor work assigned by teachers and help students remain focused and engaged.
• Check student work during lessons in accordance with teacher guidance and school procedures.
• Reinforce positive achievement and provide teachers with relevant information about student progress.
• Use scaffolding techniques to make classroom activities accessible without creating unnecessary dependence.
• Supervise pupils during classroom lessons, specialist subjects, transitions, and other designated school areas.
• Promote positive behaviour and reinforce expectations in accordance with whole-school policies.
• Support students in developing self-esteem, confidence, self-discipline, and appropriate social interaction.
• Attend intervention sessions involving speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, ABA, or other specialist support where required.
• Reinforce therapeutic strategies and targeted skills within everyday classroom and school environments.
• Work collaboratively with speech therapists, occupational therapists, behaviour specialists, and other professionals.
• Maintain regular and open communication with homeroom teachers, subject teachers, and the inclusion team.
• Assist teachers in maintaining relevant pupil records and support documentation.
• Respect confidentiality requirements and follow established communication protocols regarding parents.
• Recognize that formal parent communication remains the responsibility of designated teaching and inclusion staff.
• Support extracurricular activities, educational visits, trips, and school events involving assigned pupils.
• Follow school health and safety procedures and remain proactive in identifying potential risks.
• Maintain professional standards relating to attendance, punctuality, conduct, and dress.
• Attend required training sessions, professional meetings, and development activities.
• Support new or less experienced Inclusion Assistants through mentoring when assigned.
• Complete additional inclusion-related duties reasonably assigned by the Principal or Head of Inclusion.

Ideal Profile

• Diploma-level SEN qualification.
• Minimum 2 years of SEN experience.
