Role Context
The ICSS Engineer - Control Systems will be responsible for maintaining the health, reliability, and security of integrated control systems used in process plant operations. The role covers daily system monitoring, network and hardware analysis, process control loop checks, system backups, disaster recovery planning, troubleshooting, patching, anti-virus management, lifecycle planning, system upgrades, design reviews, HAZOP, SIL studies, FAT, SAT, commissioning support, and alarm rationalization. The position requires strong hands‑on knowledge of DCS, PLC, ICSS architecture, communication protocols, industrial networks, control system cybersecurity, and maintenance practices in oil and gas environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure ICSS system health, availability, and integrity through regular system health checks, analysis, fault identification, and corrective action planning.
- Plan and conduct preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities on time and in line with ADNOC Onshore, OEM, vendor, and plant maintenance standards.
- Lead in‑house ICSS upgrade and enhancement projects to keep control systems aligned with OEM recommendations, ADNOC guidelines, and cybersecurity requirements.
- Monitor ICSS networks, system hardware, graphics, process control loops, and critical automation components on a daily basis.
- Analyze network switches, servers, workstations, controllers, IO modules, power supplies, redundant communication links, and third‑party system interfaces.
- Prepare corrective action plans for identified failures, system faults, communication issues, alarm problems, and hardware or software abnormalities.
- Provide technical support to panel operators and operations engineers during process plant trips, equipment failures, control system faults, and abnormal events.
- Troubleshoot system issues and identify root causes related to ICSS performance, process control, automation hardware, communication links, or system configuration.
- Conduct periodic backups for integrated control system databases, servers, switches, and firewalls.
- Ensure the latest system backups are available, secured, and stored according to company procedures and disaster recovery requirements.
- Participate in the development, testing, and updating of disaster recovery plans, backup procedures, and restore procedures for control system environments.
- Identify lifecycle status for all control system hardware and software components and plan ICSS upgrades to ensure long‑term availability and integrity.
- Lead and participate in development and execution of system upgrades recommended by OEMs or required by ADNOC standards.
- Improve monitoring systems by supporting software and hardware enhancements, Windows patch updates, OEM fixes, anti‑virus scanning, and deployment of latest anti‑virus definitions.
- Manage ICSS administrator access, system passwords, and periodic password changes in accordance with company procedures and cybersecurity controls.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOP, SIL studies, alarm rationalization workshops, FAT, IFAT, SAT, commissioning, and new ICSS deployment activities.
- Coordinate with the FDIS team for updating new tags and ensuring system data consistency during projects and upgrades.
- Carry out regular process alarm and system alarm analysis and submit reports to management.
- Identify bad actors, nuisance alarms, and recurring alarm issues, then develop action plans to improve alarm performance and KPI compliance.
- Conduct alarm rationalization workshops and maintain the master alarm database with periodic reviews and updates shared with operations teams.
- Plan, execute, operate, and maintain OT cybersecurity safeguards for industrial automation environments.
- Monitor industrial and automation systems for possible digital or physical threats in coordination with OT support teams.
- Standardise operating, maintenance, cybersecurity, and process control practices across ICSS and industrial network environments.
- Plan, supervise, and coordinate assigned maintenance and engineering activities to meet section objectives.
- Train and develop assigned staff in ICSS maintenance, control system reliability, troubleshooting, alarm management, and cybersecurity practices.
- Provide input for department or section budgets and assist with approved budget implementation, work plans, and cost control.
- Implement approved policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures in line with company and international requirements.
- Conduct regular site visits, support permit‑to‑work hazard assessments, and ensure maintenance work is carried out safely.
- Participate in risk assessments, HAZOP revalidations, DGS review meetings, and HSE‑related improvement actions.
- Report hazards, near misses, unsafe conditions, and corrective actions in line with ADNOC HSE requirements.
- Provide MIS inputs, progress reports, technical updates, and maintenance performance reports for management review.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in instrument maintenance.
- At least 5 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry.
- In‑depth knowledge of DCS, PLC, ICSS systems, control system architecture, programming, communication protocols, and related industry standards.
- Strong experience in integrated control and safety systems, process automation, control loops, industrial networks, servers, workstations, controllers, IO modules, and communication interfaces.
- Hands‑on experience with preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, system health checks, and root cause analysis for control systems.
- Good understanding of system backups, disaster recovery planning, backup and restore procedures, and control system lifecycle management.
- Experience with ICSS upgrades, OEM recommended fixes, Windows patching, anti‑virus definition updates, and industrial cybersecurity controls.
- Familiarity with OT cybersecurity safeguards, PLC environments, industrial network protocols, and digital threat monitoring in automation systems.
- Experience participating in design reviews, HAZOP, SIL studies, alarm rationalisation, FAT, IFAT, SAT, commissioning, and project handover activities.
- Strong capability in alarm analysis, bad actor identification, nuisance alarm reduction, master alarm database management, and KPI‑driven alarm improvement.
- Ability to coordinate with operations, instrument technicians, maintenance teams, electrical teams, mechanical teams, HSE, technical centres, vendors, OEMs, and contractors.
- Strong analytical, diagnostic, reporting, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Ability to supervise activities, support staff development, and maintain high standards of technical execution.
