Job summary

WSP Middle East is seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety officer to ensure policy embedding and regulatory compliance across project sites and offices in Abu Dhabi. The role encompasses managing HSE arrangements, training delivery, and contractor plan reviews to safeguard personnel.

Responsibilities include site visits, weekly inspections, emergency planning, and monthly reporting, with liaison to enforcement authorities. Strong English and MS Office skills required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or relevant subject.
  • NEBOSH IGC or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • 7+ years of experience on major construction projects.
  • Excellent communication and influencing abilities.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).

Responsibilities

  • Embed Health and Safety policies across project sites and offices per regulations.
  • Manage HSE arrangements to protect personnel according to client requirements.
  • Lead HSE Inspectors to ensure compliance at site level.
  • Develop and deliver HSE training for employees and inductions.
  • Review contractor HSE plans and risk assessments for compliance.
  • Plan daily morning site visits to verify safety measures.
  • Conduct weekly HSE inspections with inspectors and contractors.
  • Organise HSE meetings with clients, staff and contractors.
  • Initiate and test emergency response plans and drills.
  • Ensure investigation reports are followed up and actions closed out.
  • Conduct regular site safety reviews and liaise with authorities.
  • Prepare and submit monthly HSE reports to client.

Job description

WSP Middle East is seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety officer.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that Health and Safety policies and procedures are effectively embedded across the project sites and office environments in compliance with local and international rules and regulations.
  • Manage the health, safety and environmental arrangements for the project against the WSP HSEQ client HSEQ Management System requirements to ensure the protection of our people.
  • Manage HSE Inspectors to ensure they are monitoring the implementation of health and safety arrangements at project site level in accordance with legal and client requirements.
  • Develop and deliver health, safety and environmental training to WSP employees including induction and safe working practices.
  • Review and approve contractor health, safety and environmental plans, risk assessments and method statements against legal and client requirements prior to work being carried out.
  • Plan daily morning site visits across project sites to ensure health and safety measures are in place before work begins.
  • Carry out weekly joint HSE inspections with HSE Inspectors and contractor personnel and ensure all corrective preventive actions are closed out.
  • Organise HSE meetings with clients, WSP project staff and contractors.
  • Initiate and test emergency response plans and ensure the drills are carried out as per the project schedule and performance standards.
  • Ensure HSE Inspectors follow up on contractor incident investigation reports, completed corrective actions are identified and closed out to prevent recurrence and provide necessary technical guidance for accident protection.
  • Conduct regular site safety reviews.
  • Liaise with enforcement authorities PCFC and EHS Checks.
  • Prepare and submit monthly HSE reports in conjunction with contractor personnel and to the client.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or relevant subject.
  • Must be qualified with relevant Health and Safety Qualifications – minimum NEBOSH IGC.
  • Minimum 7+ years experience in dealing with major construction projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
