About the Role

The Head - Arabic will lead the strategic development of Arabic provision while working closely with senior leadership, the Director of MOE Subjects, teachers, students, and the wider school community. The position combines departmental leadership with curriculum oversight, performance management, assessment analysis, quality assurance, cultural initiatives, budget responsibility, and pastoral duties. A key focus will be maintaining high standards for both Arabic First Language and Arabic Second Language learners while ensuring appropriate provision for students with differing learning needs.

Strategic Direction and Development

• Contribute to the whole-school vision and strategic direction.
• Attend and present at Executive Leadership Team meetings when invited.
• Analyse and interpret relevant school data to inform policies, departmental priorities, and school self-evaluation.
• Develop and implement Arabic department policies and practices aligned with the school 's vision and expectations for student achievement.
• Establish short, medium, and long-term plans for departmental improvement.
• Use data effectively to identify development priorities and areas requiring intervention.
• Regularly review and enhance plans for the continued development of the Arabic department.
• Ensure appropriate schemes of work are developed and reviewed for students from Year 5 to Year 13.
• Ensure curriculum planning provides suitable support for SEN-PoD, Gifted and Talented, and EAL students.
• Promote and strengthen the identity of Arabic First and Second Language provision.

Learning and Teaching

• Create and lead a clear vision for the department that supports innovative learning experiences and high-quality student outcomes.
• Ensure comprehensive curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression across Arabic provision.
• Maintain appropriate provision for students with special educational needs and Gifted and Talented students.
• Establish clear expectations for staff regarding student achievement and the quality of Arabic teaching.
• Evaluate teaching and learning regularly to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
• Promote UAE culture throughout the curriculum and wider school community.
• Ensure the department contributes to extracurricular activities, revision programmes, booster schemes, and wider school initiatives.
• Maintain learning environments that support high-quality teaching and reflect the school 's educational priorities.

Leadership and Staff Management

• Manage the performance of Arabic First and Second Language staff in accordance with school policies and the requirements of the Director of MOE.
• Establish constructive working relationships based on collaboration, professional support, and accountability.
• Lead regular faculty meetings focused on improving standards and student achievement.
• Support staff development and maintain high expectations for professional performance.
• Ensure staff and departmental resources are deployed effective long.

Assessment and Quality Assurance

• Lead the organization of International Benchmark Assessments.
• Coordinate the collection of departmental data and present findings to the Director of MOE Subjects.
• Analyse assessment information to identify patterns and trends.
• Use data to inform planning and targeted intervention.
• Ensure high-quality interventions are provided to support and challenge different groups of students.
• Lead Monitoring, Evaluation and Review processes across the department.
• Quality assure teaching, learning, assessment, and wider departmental provision.
• Identify and implement improvements needed to maintain consistently high standards.

Arabic Language, Culture and National Identity

• Lead initiatives designed to strengthen Arabic language proficiency.
• Promote a deeper understanding of UAE culture and National Identity.
• Support Emirati students through targeted Arabic literacy provision.
• Provide appropriate challenge and support to help Emirati students progress academically and prepare for post-secondary education.
• Organize and participate in cultural events including Ramadan celebrations and Iftar activities.
• Use cultural initiatives to strengthen understanding and unity within the school community.

Department Operations and Resources

• Ensure efficient deployment of staff and departmental resources.
• Manage the Arabic department budget to support teaching and learning priorities.
• Maintain learning environments that are conducive to high-quality teaching.
• Ensure available resources support curriculum delivery and departmental objectives effectively.

Pastoral and Wider School Responsibilities

• Serve as a tutor within Middle and Senior School for students in Years 5 to 9.
• Undertake registration and pastoral support responsibilities.
• Cover for absent colleagues when required.
• Support examination invigilation, including occasional after-school or weekend duties.
• Attend school events as directed by the Principal.
• Undertake additional responsibilities assigned by the Principal.
