Role Context
Safe gas distribution requires coordinated network operation, preventive maintenance, emergency preparedness and disciplined control of materials and contractors. This position will oversee conventional and virtual gas-pipeline services while supporting control-room activities, live-gas work and commercial metering. The engineer will also help ensure that delivered facilities remain safe, reliable, operable and maintainable.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan routine operations for polyethylene pipelines, steel pipelines and pressure-reduction stations.
- Operate the natural-gas distribution network according to approved procedures and standards.
- Coordinate services provided to Virtual Gas Pipeline customers.
- Manage monthly commercial meter readings and support timely billing with the Sales team.
- Monitor the readiness and effective functioning of the emergency operations room.
- Inspect gas-distribution assets and confirm that work is completed safely.
- Enforce company policies, technical specifications and operational regulations.
- Organize maintenance activities for pipelines, valves and cathodic-protection systems.
- Evaluate spare-part and material consumption against actual network requirements.
- Establish suitable inventory levels for planned and emergency work.
- Monitor calibration schedules for instruments, meters and pressure gauges.
- Support the development and operation of gas pressure-reduction stations.
- Establish operating and maintenance procedures for new pipeline installations.
- Participate in the emergency and incident standby roster.
- Support accident investigations and recommend corrective action when required.
- Develop scopes of work for polyethylene and steel pipeline activities.
- Incorporate current technologies and recognized industry practices into work requirements.
- Act as Authorizing Engineer for relevant pipeline operations.
- Develop procedures for non-routine live-gas activities.
- Provide technical support during network incidents and emergency-response situations.
- Prepare tender-package scopes for operation and maintenance contracts.
- Conduct technical evaluations of contractors and submitted bids.
- Review pipeline installation materials before approval and operational use.
- Introduce techniques that reduce maintenance duration and public-service interruption.
- Audit contractor performance on steel pipeline operation and maintenance projects.
- Analyse recurring problem areas and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Confirm that completed facilities can be operated and maintained safely.
- Develop project reports, presentations and performance-measurement tools.
- Provide technical guidance to Control Room Operations Supervisors.
- Contribute operational requirements to annual OPEX planning.
- Track contractor and supplier performance against agreed measures.
- Participate in HAZOP, HSEIA and project risk-assessment reviews.
- Support Natural Gas Division maintenance and HSE-management processes.
- Prepare work packages aligned with project codes, specifications and HSE requirements.
- Complete LUAG calculations and monitor monthly gas-reconciliation statements.
- Coordinate technical matters with government authorities, contractors and suppliers.
Ideal Profile
The position requires substantial technical experience in natural-gas distribution operations and maintenance, although a specific academic qualification and minimum experience period are not stated. Candidates should understand polyethylene and steel pipeline systems, pressure-reduction stations, commercial metering, cathodic protection and electrical and instrumentation interfaces. Experience supervising control-room operations, contractors, emergency response and non-routine live-gas work will be important. Strong knowledge of international gas-distribution practices, tender evaluation, cost estimation and project work-package preparation is expected. The role also requires confident interaction with government bodies, suppliers and technical service providers.
