Job summary

Tanqeeb is seeking a qualified technician to install, inspect, test, and maintain fire pump and fire alarm systems in accordance with approved drawings and safety standards.

The role requires diagnosing faults, performing various tests, and documenting results. You will coordinate with site teams and support Civil Defense inspections as needed.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of fire pump operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing.
• Strong understanding of fire alarm systems and control panels.
• Ability to interpret fire protection drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Familiarity with NFPA standards, manufacturer requirements, and UAE fire safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair fire alarm and fire pump systems per drawings and standards.
• Perform flow, pressure, churn, and performance tests and record results.
• Diagnose and rectify pump, controller, motor/engine, battery, and wiring faults.
• Read and interpret schematics, shop drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
• Coordinate with site engineers and other trades during testing, commissioning, and inspections.
• Prepare maintenance and fault reports and maintain accurate records.
• Ensure work complies with HSE procedures and project requirements.
• Assist in Civil Defense inspections and rectifications as required.

Job description

1. Install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems and fire pump systems in accordance with approved drawings, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable fire safety standards.

2. Possess extensive practical knowledge of fire pump systems, including electric motor-driven pumps, diesel engine-driven pumps, jockey pumps, controllers, pressure-maintenance systems, and associated valves and piping.

3. Conduct routine inspection, testing, preventive maintenance, and servicing of fire pumps, jockey pumps, pump controllers, diesel engines, batteries, fuel systems, pressure gauges, and related components.

4. Perform fire pump flow tests, pressure tests, churn tests, and performance checks, and record test results accurately.

5. Diagnose and rectify fire pump problems such as low pressure, abnormal pressure, pump failure, controller faults, motor/engine issues, battery problems, leakage, vibration, overheating, and abnormal noise.

6. Inspect and verify the proper operation of fire pump controllers, automatic start/stop functions, pressure switches, alarms, and monitoring devices.

7. Carry out testing and troubleshooting of fire alarm control panels, smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual call points, sounders, strobes, modules, interface units, batteries, and associated wiring.

8. Identify and rectify fire alarm faults, including open circuits, short circuits, earth faults, device faults, communication faults, battery faults, and panel-related issues.

9. Conduct testing and commissioning of fire alarm and fire pump systems after installation, maintenance, repair, or modification.

10. Read and interpret fire alarm schematics, fire pump layouts, single-line diagrams, approved shop drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.

11. Inspect fire pump rooms and associated equipment to ensure proper operation, accessibility, housekeeping, and compliance with approved requirements.

12. Carry out preventive maintenance schedules and ensure all equipment is maintained in good working condition.

13. Coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, consultants, civil defense representatives, and other MEP trades during testing, commissioning, inspections, and troubleshooting activities.

14. Attend emergency breakdowns and respond promptly to fire pump and fire alarm system faults.

15. Prepare maintenance reports, inspection checklists, testing records, service reports, and fault reports.

16. Maintain accurate records of equipment condition, test results, repairs, replacement parts, and outstanding issues.

17. Ensure all works are performed safely and in accordance with company HSE procedures, project requirements, and applicable fire protection standards.

18. Assist in Civil Defense /DCD inspections, testing, commissioning, and rectification of observations, where required.

19. Identify defective components and recommend appropriate repair or replacement.

20. Ensure correct selection and installation of replacement parts and verify proper operation after repair.

21. Coordinate with the procurement/store team regarding required spare parts, tools, and consumables.

22. Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians when required.

23. Maintain tools, testing instruments, and equipment in good working condition.

24. Perform other technical and maintenance duties related to fire protection systems as assigned by the supervisor or management.

Desired Candidate Profile

1. Extensive knowledge of fire pump operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing.

2. Good knowledge of electric and diesel fire pump systems.

3. Knowledge of jockey pump and pressure-maintenance systems.

4. Knowledge of fire pump controllers and automatic starting systems.

5. Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and control-related fire pump faults.

6. Good knowledge of fire alarm systems and control panels.

7. Ability to read and understand fire protection drawings and wiring diagrams.

8. Familiarity with applicable NFPA standards, manufacturer requirements, and UAE fire safety/DCD requirements.

9. Ability to use electrical and mechanical testing instruments safely and correctly.

10. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
