Job summary

AlFuttaim is seeking an experienced EV Service Technician to service BYD battery-electric vehicles in Dubai. You will perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs, focusing on high-voltage safety, charging systems, and battery technology.

You will work with the Aftersales Retail Team to deliver high-quality, first-time-right repairs, meet productivity targets, and stay current with BYD training and EV developments in a busy UAE workshop.

Qualifications

• Diploma, ITI, NCVT, ITC, trade certificate, or equivalent automotive technical qualification.
• Hands-on experience with vehicle diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and component replacement.
• Experience servicing electric or hybrid vehicles and understanding high-voltage safety.

Responsibilities

EV Service Technician - BYD

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Overview

EV Service Technician will perform inspection, diagnosis, scheduled maintenance, and repair work on BYD battery‑electric vehicles, including conventional automotive systems, high‑voltage components, charging technology, and electronic controls. The technician will support the BYD Aftersales Retail Team and work with supervisors, diagnostics specialists, service advisors, and parts personnel to deliver high‑quality, first‑time‑right repairs and meet productivity targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled maintenance, diagnostic checks, inspections, and repair work on BYD electric vehicles.
• Diagnose faults in electric drivetrains, battery systems, charging systems, electronic controls, and conventional vehicle components.
• Use manufacturer diagnostic systems, scan tools, electrical testing equipment, and approved troubleshooting procedures.
• Interpret fault codes, live data, wiring diagrams, technical bulletins, and workshop manuals.
• Follow high‑voltage isolation and safety procedures before starting repair work.
• Use proper personal protective equipment and insulated tools when handling high‑voltage systems.
• Inspect battery‑related components, charging connections, electrical circuits, cooling systems, brakes, steering, and suspension.
• Carry out component removal, repair, adjustment, and replacement within approved technical authority.
• Complete repairs according to BYD specifications, workshop procedures, and manufacturer quality standards.
• Apply first‑time‑right principles to reduce repeat repairs and minimise vehicle downtime.
• Confirm the root cause of faults before recommending or replacing components.
• Perform post‑repair functional tests to verify that vehicle concerns have been resolved.
• Conduct road tests where authorised and required to confirm repair quality.
• Complete Electronic Vehicle Check inspections and document identified defects accurately.
• Report additional repair requirements to the workshop supervisor or Service Advisor.
• Provide clear technician comments explaining faults, testing performed, repairs completed, and further recommendations.
• Escalate advanced diagnostics or high‑voltage concerns to qualified technical specialists.
• Maintain complete job cards, inspection records, repair documentation, and parts usage information.
• Meet assigned productivity, efficiency, quality, and utilisation targets.
• Manage repair time effectively to support promised vehicle completion dates.
• Use parts, consumables, tools, and workshop resources efficiently.
• Protect customer vehicles and prevent damage during inspection and repair activities.
• Maintain diagnostic devices and workshop equipment in serviceable condition.
• Follow 5S standards to keep the work area clean, organised, safe, and efficient.
• Comply with workshop health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
• Handle batteries, fluids, electronic components, and controlled materials according to approved procedures.
• Communicate technical concerns and repair progress clearly to supervisors and team members.
• Collaborate with colleagues when diagnosing complex or recurring faults.
• Support workshop initiatives focused on repair quality, customer satisfaction, and operational improvement.
• Attend BYD product training, EV safety programmes, and technical certification courses.
• Maintain current knowledge of electric vehicle technology, battery innovation, charging systems, and automotive developments.
• Share practical technical knowledge with colleagues and contribute to a continuous learning culture.

Qualifications

• Diploma, ITI, NCVT, ITC, trade certificate, or equivalent automotive technical qualification.
• 2‑3 years of experience as an Automotive Technician, Service Technician, Diagnostic Technician, General Repair Technician, or EV Technician.
• Hands‑on experience in vehicle diagnostics, preventive maintenance, mechanical repair, and component replacement.
• Practical understanding of automotive electrical and electronic systems.
• Experience servicing electric or hybrid vehicles highly preferred.
• EV or high‑voltage certification would be an advantage.
• Understanding of battery systems, electric drivetrains, charging technology, and high‑voltage safety.
• Ability to use manufacturer diagnostic tools, scan equipment, and electrical test instruments.
• Experience interpreting service manuals, wiring diagrams, diagnostic data, and repair procedures.
• Strong troubleshooting and structured fault‑finding skills.
• Ability to complete repairs independently while seeking technical support when necessary.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Understanding of first‑time‑right repair standards and post‑repair testing.
• Familiarity with workshop health, safety, environmental, and 5S requirements.
• Ability to work effectively in a busy aftersales workshop.
• Good verbal and written English communication skills.
• Strong teamwork, time management, and organisational ability.
• Valid UAE driving licence advantageous.
• Genuine interest in electric mobility and emerging automotive technology.
• Willingness to complete continuous technical training and certification.
