About the Role
As an Estimation Engineer– Mechanical, you will be responsible for reviewing tender documents, understanding client requirements, developing accurate estimates, coordinating with internal departments and vendors, and preparing complete technical and commercial proposals.
You will work closely with Engineering, Sales, Planning, HSE, Quality Control, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure that all bids are competitive, compliant, and submitted within the required deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Tender and ITB Review
- Receive and analyze tenders, RFPs, and RFQs.
- Review Instructions to Bidders (ITB), specifications, drawings, BOQs, and contractual requirements.
- Identify technical, commercial, contractual, and execution risks.
- Prepare a detailed compliance sheet covering all ITB requirements.
Estimation and Costing
- Prepare the Mechanical Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Develop detailed man-hour estimates and cost sheets.
- Calculate the total cost of materials, equipment, utilities, manpower, tools, and consumables.
- Evaluate project resources, including manpower, equipment, tools, and consumables.
- Review supplier and subcontractor quotations and ensure proper technical and commercial alignment.
- Maintain awareness of current market rates and pricing trends.
Proposal Preparation
- Coordinate the preparation and compilation of complete technical and commercial proposals.
- Prepare manpower and equipment deployment plans.
- Develop execution strategies and high-level project schedules.
- Prepare organization charts, method statements, HSE documents, and quality documentation.
- Ensure that proposals are accurate, complete, compliant, and submitted on time.
Coordination and Clarifications
- Liaise with Engineering, Sales, Planning, HSE, and Quality Control departments.
- Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and sub-vendors involved in bid preparation.
- Prepare technical and commercial clarifications in coordination with the Sales team.
- Support negotiations with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Post-Award Handover
- Prepare the project handover report after award of the job.
- Transfer updated tender documents, estimates, clarifications, and correspondence to the Project Management team.
- Attend internal project kick-off meetings.
- Provide regular estimating and proposal status reports to management.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in mechanical estimation, proposal preparation, and bid management.
- Experience in construction and EPC projects.
- Previous project experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power, or Water sectors.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, materials, equipment, and labor costing.
- Good awareness of market rates and subcontractor/supplier pricing.
- Excellent technical proposal writing and documentation skills.
- Strong negotiation, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional time management and multitasking abilities.
- Good knowledge of industry practices, standards, and applicable project requirements.
- Excellent command of the English language.
- Strong presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
