Overview

English Teacher - TOK in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is a strong Education Management opportunity for an experienced secondary English educator who can deliver inquiry‑based English lessons and support Theory of Knowledge learning within an authorised IB World School. This role is ideal for a reflective teacher who is passionate about literature, language, critical thinking, communication, and concept‑driven learning in an international school environment with GEMS Education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging English and Theory of Knowledge lessons that develop literacy, communication, analysis, reflection, and critical thinking.
  • Teach literature, language, writing, speaking, listening, and inquiry‑based concepts through creative and student‑centred methods.
  • Inspire students to explore ideas, evaluate knowledge, discuss perspectives, and make meaningful connections across subjects.
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment where students feel confident to question, reflect, debate, and express ideas respectfully.
  • Differentiate learning activities for EAL students, gifted learners, and students requiring additional academic support.
  • Use technology, digital resources, discussion strategies, writing tools, and creative approaches to improve engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Assess student progress through formative and summative methods, using evidence to plan targeted support and extension.
  • Record and communicate progress clearly to students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership.
  • Collaborate with IB programme teams to design concept‑driven curriculum aligned with IB standards, inquiry learning, and the IB Learner Profile.
  • Support students in research skills, academic writing, oral communication, text analysis, and independent learning habits.
  • Contribute to co‑curricular activities, enrichment programmes, school events, and wider community initiatives.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and the school community to support student wellbeing, motivation, and achievement.
  • Engage in professional learning, reflective practice, and collaborative planning to enhance teaching quality.
  • Promote GEMS values and international‑mindedness through classroom practice and school life.
Ideal Profile
  • Recognised teaching qualification at degree level such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent with a specialism in English.
  • Minimum 3 years of successful experience teaching Secondary English.
  • Experience in an IB World School is preferred.
  • Experience teaching IB MYP or DP English is an advantage.
  • Ability or willingness to teach Theory of Knowledge, with previous TOK experience desirable.
  • Strong understanding of inquiry‑based learning, IB philosophy, concept‑driven curriculum, and international education.
  • Passion for developing confident communicators, analytical readers, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, organisation, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to support a diverse international student body with varied learning needs and cultural backgrounds.
