Job summary

Sofitel Dubai The Palm invites a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team on site at Palm Jumeirah. You will handle electrical, mechanical, and HVAC maintenance across guest rooms, villas, and public areas.

You will monitor the BMS, respond to alarms, conduct energy readings, and supervise contractors while maintaining the high standards of service and safety expected in a luxurious 5-star resort.

Qualifications

• Diploma or technical certificate in electrical, mechanical or HVAC engineering.
• Minimum 3 years' multi-skilled maintenance in hospitality or related fields.
• Experience with electrical LV systems, HVAC, plumbing and BMS.
• Knowledge of fire safety systems and emergency procedures.
• Proficient English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

• Respond to guest calls and work orders prioritizing guest rooms and villas.
• Perform first-line maintenance across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry.
• Record readings for chillers, AHUs/FCUs, boilers, pumps, and tanks.
• Monitor the BMS and fire alarm panel; escalate alarms as needed.
• Part of emergency response team: fire, flood, power issues, lifts, gas leaks.
• Inspect public areas and report or fix defects.
• Carry out preventive maintenance as assigned by supervisor.
• Manage permit-to-work and lock-out/tag-out; supervise contractors.
• Complete shift log and handover with open jobs.
• Record energy and water meters; support Planet 21 sustainability actions.
• Maintain courteous and discreet conduct in rooms and public areas.
• Comply with Health & Safety, Dubai Civil Defence and Accor standards.

Job Description

• Respond promptly to guest calls and departmental work orders (e.g. HotSOS); give priority to guest-occupied rooms and villas
• Carry out first-line repairs across trades: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, minor carpentry, locks and general maintenance
• Perform scheduled plant room rounds, recording readings for chillers, AHUs/FCUs, boilers, pumps, water tanks, pools and generators
• Monitor the BMS and fire alarm panel; act immediately on alarms and elevate to the Duty Engineer as needed
• Act as a member of the emergency response team: fire, flooding, power failure, lift entrapment and gas leaks
• Check public areas, lighting, signage and pool and beach equipment during rounds; fix or report defects
• Carry out preventive maintenance tasks assigned by the supervisor during quieter periods
• Issue and follow permit-to-work and lock-out/tag-out procedures; supervise contractors working during the shift
• Complete the shift log and give a clear handover to the next shift, including open jobs and recurring issues
• Record energy and water meter readings and support Planet 21 sustainability actions
• Be courteous and discreet with guests when working in rooms and public areas
• Follow Health & Safety, Dubai Civil Defence and Accor standards, and keep tools and the workshop clean

Qualifications

• Diploma or technical certificate in electrical, mechanical or HVAC engineering, or equivalent trade qualification
• Minimum 3 years' multi-skilled maintenance experience, ideally in a 5-star hotel or resort
• Practical knowledge of electrical systems (LV), plumbing, HVAC and building management systems
• Familiarity with fire safety systems and emergency procedures
• Good spoken and written English
• Computer literate; able to use the maintenance system and shift logs
