Job summary

BESIX Middle East is seeking a seasoned Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary design activities for complex building, infrastructure, and marine projects in Dubai. You will coordinate consultants, validate designs, and ensure compliance with codes and project requirements throughout the lifecycle.

The role requires a strong background in civil engineering design, leadership in design teams, and experience across tendering, FEED reviews, and value engineering within a multinational contracting

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering design and construction, with both design office and site exposure.
• At least 5 years in a Design Manager or Engineering Manager leadership role.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary design projects across buildings, infrastructure and marine sectors.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design activities across the project lifecycle.
• Provide tendering support and review FEED, design strategies and clarifications.
• Support project delivery with timely technical input, design reviews, workshops, and stakeholder coordination.
• Ensure QA/QC, codes compliance (ACI, Eurocodes, British Standards, AASHTO, ASTM) and constructability alignment.

BESIX Middle East is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join the Engineering Department in Dubai. The successful candidate will support tendering and project delivery activities by managing multidisciplinary design processes, coordinating with consultants and stakeholders, and ensuring the development of safe, cost-effective, and technically compliant engineering solutions across building, infrastructure, and marine projects.

What You'll Drive

Design & Engineering Management

• Support the Head of Engineering in the review, development, and evaluation of tender and project designs.
• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage external design consultants and specialist subcontractors, ensuring deliverables meet project requirements, budgets, and schedules.
• Review and validate design submissions, calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
• Ensure compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, standards, and local authority regulations.
• Identify design risks and opportunities and propose mitigation measures and value engineering solutions.

Tender Support

• Provide technical support to the Tender Department during bid preparation.
• Review FEED documentation and provide feedback on design strategies.
• Support quantity take-offs, design planning, consultant scopes, technical clarifications, and risk assessments.
• Participate in the development of innovative and cost-effective technical solutions that enhance BESIX's competitiveness.

Project Delivery Support

• Provide timely technical support to project teams during construction.
• Coordinate design reviews, technical workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
• Resolve technical issues arising during execution and ensure alignment with design intent.
• Conduct site visits and provide engineering support to ensure compliance with approved designs and specifications.
• Liaise with project managers, technical managers, clients, consultants, and authorities throughout the project lifecycle.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with BESIX QA/QC procedures and HSE requirements.
• Verify compliance with international design codes and standards including ACI, Eurocodes, British Standards, AASHTO, ASTM, and relevant local regulations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and the development of engineering best practices within the department.

Qualifications

• Qualifications
• Master's Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineering certification is an advantage.
• Additional qualifications in Project Management or Design Management are beneficial.
• Experience
• Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering design and construction, covering both design office and site environments.
• Minimum 5 years in a Design Manager, Engineering Manager, or similar leadership role.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design projects across buildings and infrastructure sectors.
• Experience in marine projects including ports, jetties, quay walls, marinas, waterfront developments, or coastal infrastructure is required.
• Previous experience with major contractors, engineering consultancies, or design-build organizations is preferred.
• Experience supporting tenders, design verification, consultant management, and value engineering initiatives.
• Technical Competencies
• Strong knowledge of building, infrastructure, and marine engineering design.
• Sound understanding of design management principles and project delivery processes.
• Experience reviewing and coordinating structural, civil, architectural, MEP, and marine engineering disciplines.
• Strong understanding of design verification, constructability reviews, and risk management.
• Proficient in international engineering codes, standards, and local authority requirements.
• Ability to develop practical, buildable, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
