Customer Service Associate - Bakery

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome customers and provide friendly, professional assistance throughout their shopping experience.
• Help customers select bakery products based on preferences, dietary needs, ingredients, allergens, and serving requirements.
• Explain product features, preparation methods, storage guidance, and suitable complementary items.
• Respond to customer enquiries promptly and resolve basic concerns in line with service standards.
• Escalate complex complaints or product issues to the appropriate supervisor.
• Build positive customer relationships that encourage repeat visits and long‑term loyalty.
• Prepare, portion, package, label, and display bakery products according to approved procedures.
• Replenish shelves and display units regularly to maintain strong product availability.
• Inspect bakery items for freshness, appearance, quality, expiry dates, and correct labelling.
• Apply First In, First Out stock rotation to reduce spoilage and unnecessary food waste.
• Remove expired, damaged, or unsuitable products from sale and report quality concerns.
• Maintain bakery displays in accordance with visual merchandising standards.
• Keep shelves, counters, promotional areas, and product displays clean, organized, and attractive.
• Support seasonal campaigns, product launches, tasting activities, and promotional displays.
• Receive bakery deliveries and check quantities, condition, product codes, and expiry information.
• Assist with stock counts, inventory checks, replenishment planning, and waste recording.
• Report shortages, damaged stock, delivery discrepancies, and recurring availability issues.
• Help control shrinkage through accurate handling, rotation, storage, and stock monitoring.
• Promote bakery items using appropriate upselling and cross‑selling techniques.
• Recommend complementary food products to increase basket value and improve the customer experience.
• Stay informed about current promotions, seasonal ranges, product launches, and department offers.
• Contribute to department sales, availability, service, and customer satisfaction targets.
• Operate the point‑of‑sale system accurately and efficiently when assigned.
• Process cash, card, and digital payment transactions in accordance with company procedures.
• Follow cash handling, till balancing, refund, and transaction security requirements.
• Maintain an orderly and efficient checkout area.
• Follow food safety, HACCP, municipality, health, and workplace safety requirements.
• Clean and sanitize food preparation surfaces, utensils, equipment, storage areas, and display units.
• Use protective equipment and safe food handling methods when preparing or serving products.
• Maintain personal hygiene and grooming standards appropriate for a food retail environment.
• Work closely with bakery colleagues, supervisors, stock teams, cashiers, and store management.
• Support opening, closing, replenishment, cleaning, and handover routines as required.

Ideal Profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Hospitality, bakery, culinary, food service, or retail‑related training is advantageous.
• 1‑3 years of experience in a bakery, café, supermarket, food retail, restaurant, or hospitality environment.
• Previous customer‑facing experience within food retail or bakery operations is preferred.
• Working knowledge of bakery products, ingredients, food presentation, labelling, and safe handling practices.
• Familiarity with food safety, hygiene, HACCP, expiry control, and stock rotation requirements.
• Experience using point‑of‑sale systems and handling cash, card, and digital payments.
• Strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to recommend products and apply responsible upselling and cross‑selling techniques.
• Good attention to detail when checking freshness, labels, displays, payments, and inventory.
• Organised approach to replenishment, cleaning, stock handling, and customer service.
• Ability to work efficiently during busy trading periods without reducing service or safety standards.
• Positive and energetic personality with a customer‑first mindset.
• Strong teamwork skills and willingness to support different store activities.
• Good spoken English is required.
• Arabic communication skills are advantageous.
