Job description

Consultant Surgeon – Pediatric Plastic

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This senior physician position is for an experienced consultant specializing in pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery, including congenital deformities, craniofacial conditions, cleft repair, trauma reconstruction, and functional aesthetic restoration. The successful candidate will work at a leading children’s health care hospital in Abu Dhabi, while the recruitment and posting remain in Dubai.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and manage congenital, traumatic, and acquired pediatric plastic and reconstructive conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Perform procedures such as cleft lip and palate repair, craniofacial reconstruction, pediatric hand surgery, burn reconstruction, scar revision, and soft-tissue reconstruction.
  • Evaluate pediatric trauma cases and complex reconstructive presentations requiring specialist assessment, imaging review, operative planning, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations, including new case evaluation, pre-operative assessment, post-operative review, and long-term follow-up.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans, operative strategies, rehabilitation pathways, and post-operative recovery plans based on age, diagnosis, function, appearance, and family needs.
  • Collaborate with craniofacial surgeons, neurosurgeons, ENT specialists, orthopedic surgeons, dermatologists, anesthesiologists, rehabilitation teams, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Support cleft and craniofacial multidisciplinary care by contributing to staged treatment planning, surgical timing, family education, and outcome monitoring.
  • Manage pediatric reconstructive cases involving burns, scars, soft-tissue defects, hand deformities, craniofacial abnormalities, and trauma-related functional concerns.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, expected outcomes, procedural risks, post-operative care, wound care, rehabilitation needs, and follow-up requirements.
  • Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, rehabilitation recommendations, discharge plans, and clinical documentation in line with DOH Abu Dhabi regulations and hospital policies.
  • Participate in clinical audits, case reviews, research, teaching, continuing medical education programs, and surgical quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to patient safety standards, infection control practices, ethical surgical care, clinical governance requirements, and evidence-based pediatric plastic surgery protocols.
Ideal Profile
  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by DOH Abu Dhabi.
  • Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent qualification in Plastic Surgery with subspecialty experience in Pediatric Plastic Surgery.
  • Valid DOH consultant license or eligibility letter in Plastic Surgery required for the work location.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery within a tertiary or academic hospital.
  • Strong expertise in cleft surgery, craniofacial reconstruction, burn reconstruction, hand surgery, scar revision, and soft-tissue repair.
  • Experience in cleft and craniofacial multidisciplinary programs preferred.
  • Exposure to pediatric microsurgery and complex reconstructive procedures is an advantage.
  • Academic, research, audit, teaching, or continuing medical education experience preferred.
  • Excellent surgical judgment with the ability to manage complex pediatric cases safely and confidently.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain sensitive surgical concerns to families with clarity, compassion, and cultural awareness.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural pediatric healthcare environment with multidisciplinary teams.
