The Consultant Pediatric Plastic Surgeon provides specialist surgical care for infants, children, and adolescents affected by congenital anomalies, traumatic injuries, burns, scars, soft tissue defects, and other reconstructive conditions. The role combines careful surgical planning with age-appropriate treatment strategies designed to restore function, support normal development, and achieve the best possible aesthetic outcome. Because many pediatric reconstructive conditions involve multiple anatomical systems and stages of care, the consultant works closely with craniofacial teams, neurosurgeons, ENT specialists, orthopedic surgeons, dermatologists, rehabilitation professionals, and other pediatric specialists. The position has a direct impact on long-term function, appearance, confidence, and quality of life for children requiring complex surgical treatment.
The position requires an MBBS or equivalent recognized medical degree together with advanced specialist training in Plastic Surgery. Candidates should hold Board Certification or Fellowship in Plastic Surgery with substantial subspecialty experience in Pediatric Plastic Surgery. A minimum of 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery is required, preferably within a tertiary-care children 's hospital or academic medical center. The successful surgeon should demonstrate strong expertise across cleft lip and palate surgery, craniofacial reconstruction, pediatric hand surgery, burn reconstruction, scar revision, and soft tissue reconstruction. Experience participating in dedicated cleft and craniofacial multidisciplinary programs is highly desirable. Exposure to pediatric microsurgery and advanced complex reconstructive procedures would provide a significant advantage. Candidates should demonstrate excellent operative judgment, technical precision, and the ability to plan staged reconstruction around pediatric growth and development. Academic, teaching, publication, or research experience in Plastic Surgery would be advantageous. Strong communication skills are essential when counseling families about complex procedures, realistic outcomes, surgical risks, and long-term treatment pathways. Candidates should meet the professional licensing or eligibility requirements applicable to consultant-level medical practice in the United Arab Emirates.
