Role Summary

The Consultant Pediatric Craniofacial Surgeon in Dubai, United Arab Emirates will provide advanced reconstructive and corrective surgical care for infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired craniofacial abnormalities. The consultant will support a leading children’s healthcare facility in Abu Dhabi while managing complex craniosynostosis, cleft-related deformities, facial asymmetry, craniofacial trauma, and congenital skull or facial conditions. The role requires advanced surgical expertise, long‑term treatment planning, family‑centered communication, and close collaboration with neurosurgery, plastic surgery, otolaryngology, orthodontics, speech therapy, pediatrics, and other specialist services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and manage congenital and acquired craniofacial abnormalities affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and review developmental, functional, neurological, airway, feeding, speech, and aesthetic concerns.
  • Develop individualized surgical and long‑term reconstructive treatment plans based on patient age, anatomy, growth, and clinical needs.
  • Perform complex craniofacial procedures for craniosynostosis, congenital skull deformities, facial asymmetry, and craniofacial syndromes.
  • Manage cleft‑related craniofacial deformities and secondary reconstructive requirements.
  • Perform reconstruction following pediatric craniofacial trauma and acquired facial defects.
  • Participate in pediatric skull and facial reconstruction using advanced surgical planning and corrective techniques.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for new, follow‑up, and complex referral cases.
  • Review CT scans, MRI studies, three‑dimensional imaging, cephalometric assessments, and other diagnostic investigations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary craniofacial clinics, surgical planning meetings, and complex case conferences.
  • Collaborate with pediatric neurosurgeons during combined cranial vault, skull base, and intracranial procedures.
  • Coordinate care with plastic surgeons, ENT specialists, maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists, ophthalmologists, and pediatricians.
  • Work closely with speech and language therapists, audiologists, psychologists, geneticists, and rehabilitation professionals.
  • Develop pre‑operative, intra‑operative, and post‑operative management plans for high‑risk pediatric surgical patients.
  • Monitor postoperative recovery, wound healing, pain control, neurological status, infection risk, and functional outcomes.
  • Manage surgical complications and coordinate timely intervention when required.
  • Counsel parents and guardians regarding diagnoses, surgical options, expected outcomes, possible risks, and recovery requirements.
  • Provide long‑term follow‑up to monitor craniofacial growth, function, appearance, and future reconstructive needs.
  • Obtain informed consent and ensure compassionate, culturally sensitive communication with families.
  • Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, imaging reviews, consent records, and follow‑up plans.
  • Ensure compliance with surgical safety checklists, infection prevention standards, medication protocols, and patient identification requirements.
  • Follow applicable UAE healthcare regulations, DOH requirements, hospital policies, ethical standards, and confidentiality obligations.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, incident investigations, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to craniofacial program development, clinical pathway design, surgical protocols, and patient‑safety projects.
  • Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, junior doctors, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in teaching, simulation training, academic presentations, research, and continuing medical education activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of pediatric craniofacial surgery, reconstructive technologies, virtual surgical planning, and advanced operative techniques.
Ideal Profile
  • Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Completed specialist training and board certification in Plastic Surgery or a closely related surgical specialty.
  • Fellowship or recognized advanced subspecialty training in Craniofacial Surgery or Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery.
  • Valid UAE consultant license or eligibility to obtain the appropriate professional license.
  • DOH Consultant License or Eligibility Letter in the relevant specialty is required for practice at the employing facility in Abu Dhabi.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of post‑board consultant experience in pediatric craniofacial surgery.
  • Previous experience in a tertiary‑care children’s hospital, academic medical center, or specialist craniofacial program.
  • Strong expertise in pediatric craniofacial reconstruction, corrective surgery, and congenital deformity management.
  • Proven experience treating craniosynostosis, cleft‑related deformities, facial asymmetry, trauma, and congenital skull abnormalities.
  • Practical experience in multidisciplinary cleft and craniofacial programmes.
  • Exposure to advanced craniofacial reconstruction and pediatric skull base procedures is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret complex craniofacial imaging and participate in three‑dimensional surgical planning.
  • Strong knowledge of pediatric growth, facial development, peri‑operative care, and long‑term reconstructive sequencing.
  • Excellent operative judgment, technical ability, leadership, and complication management skills.
  • Academic teaching, clinical research, audit participation, or publication experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and counseling skills with a compassionate, family‑centered approach.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary clinical and rehabilitation teams.
