Role Context
The Consultant – Pediatric Gastroenterologist will provide specialized care for children with digestive, liver, pancreatic, nutritional, and feeding‑related disorders. The role requires strong diagnostic judgment, advanced pediatric GI procedural skills, Arabic communication ability, and close collaboration with pediatricians, surgeons, dietitians, nurses, and allied health teams.
Responsibilities include supporting patients and families through diagnosis, treatment planning, long‑term follow‑up, disease education, and preventive care while maintaining international standards of clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage pediatric gastrointestinal, hepatology, pancreatic, nutritional, and feeding disorders in infants, children, and adolescents.
- Treat conditions including inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, GERD, chronic abdominal pain, constipation, liver diseases, pancreatic disorders, feeding difficulties, and nutritional concerns.
- Perform pediatric gastroenterology procedures including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, biopsy, and related approved diagnostic or therapeutic interventions.
- Conduct detailed clinical assessments using medical history, physical examination, laboratory results, imaging, growth patterns, nutritional status, and endoscopic findings.
- Develop individualized treatment and nutritional management plans based on diagnosis, disease severity, age, growth needs, and family circumstances.
- Provide long‑term follow‑up for chronic pediatric GI conditions and adjust treatment plans according to clinical response and investigation results.
- Collaborate with pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, dietitians, radiologists, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Educate patients and families in Arabic and English regarding gastrointestinal health, medication use, nutrition, lifestyle changes, preventive care, and treatment adherence.
- Provide clear counselling to families about procedures, risks, test results, treatment options, and follow‑up requirements.
- Maintain accurate medical records, consultation notes, procedure reports, consent documentation, treatment plans, and follow‑up records.
- Ensure adherence to DHA requirements, hospital protocols, international clinical standards, patient safety expectations, and ethical practice.
- Participate in departmental quality initiatives, clinical audits, research projects, case reviews, and continuing medical education activities.
- Support clinical excellence by staying updated with advances in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy, nutrition, and family‑centered care.
- Work effectively in a multicultural healthcare environment while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and compassionate patient communication.
Ideal Profile
- Medical degree with specialization in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology.
- American Board Certification in Pediatric Gastroenterology is preferred.
- Equivalent recognized fellowship or board certification in Pediatric Gastroenterology may be considered.
- Arabic speaker is mandatory.
- DHA License Eligibility or active DHA License is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of consultant‑level experience in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
- Strong expertise in pediatric endoscopic procedures and advanced gastrointestinal care.
- Experience managing IBD, celiac disease, GERD, chronic abdominal pain, constipation, liver diseases, feeding disorders, and nutritional problems in children.
- Excellent communication, leadership, patient‑management, and family counselling skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with pediatricians, surgeons, dietitians, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
