Responsibilities

Role Context The Consultant Neuroradiologist provides advanced diagnostic and interventional expertise for patients with complex neurological and cerebrovascular conditions. The position combines interpretation of sophisticated neuroimaging with catheter-based procedures designed to restore blood flow, treat vascular abnormalities and reduce the need for open surgical intervention. The consultant has a direct impact on neurological outcomes, particularly in time-critical conditions such as acute ischemic stroke, ruptured aneurysm and neurovascular trauma. Successful practice requires close coordination with neurology, neurosurgery, emergency medicine, anesthesia, intensive care and imaging teams throughout diagnosis, intervention and post-procedure management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform endovascular treatment for cerebral aneurysms using appropriate neurointerventional techniques.
  • Manage arteriovenous malformations through minimally invasive vascular procedures where clinically indicated.
  • Perform mechanical thrombectomy for eligible patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke.
  • Provide emergency neurointerventional treatment within established stroke pathways.
  • Undertake carotid artery stenting for appropriately selected patients.
  • Perform intracranial stenting according to anatomical and clinical requirements.
  • Conduct spinal vascular interventions for suitable neurological and vascular conditions.
  • Evaluate patients before neurointerventional procedures and determine procedural suitability.
  • Review clinical history, neurological findings and imaging before treatment planning.
  • Interpret CT examinations relevant to acute and complex neurological conditions.
  • Analyze MRI studies involving the brain, spine and neurovascular system.
  • Interpret cerebral and spinal angiographic examinations.
  • Produce precise diagnostic reports that clearly communicate clinically significant findings.
  • Integrate multimodality imaging information into diagnostic and procedural decision-making.
  • Develop individualized neurointerventional strategies according to vascular anatomy and disease characteristics.
  • Respond to emergency stroke cases requiring rapid imaging review and endovascular intervention.
  • Participate in urgent neurovascular procedures involving neurological trauma where appropriate.
  • Coordinate peri-procedural care with anesthesiology and critical care teams.
  • Monitor patients for complications during and following neurointerventional procedures.
  • Contribute to post-treatment imaging evaluation and neurological outcome assessment.
  • Collaborate closely with neurologists in acute stroke and cerebrovascular management.
  • Work with neurosurgeons when patients require combined surgical and endovascular assessment.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary neurovascular and stroke conferences.
  • Provide specialist consultation to referring physicians regarding imaging findings and treatment options.
  • Communicate procedural risks, expected outcomes and alternative approaches clearly to patients and families.
  • Obtain appropriate informed consent before invasive procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of imaging findings, interventions and clinical recommendations.
  • Apply radiation safety principles during fluoroscopic and angiographic procedures.
  • Follow infection prevention and procedural safety standards.
  • Maintain compliance with DHA requirements and applicable professional practice standards.
  • Participate in clinical governance, case review and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support development and refinement of stroke and neurointerventional protocols.
  • Mentor junior radiologists, fellows and other medical trainees.
  • Contribute to clinical teaching and multidisciplinary education.
  • Participate in research related to interventional neuroradiology and neurovascular disease.
  • Maintain continuing medical education and stay current with emerging endovascular technologies and imaging techniques.
Ideal Profile

The role requires a recognized medical degree together with appropriate postgraduate specialist training in Radiology or Neuroradiology. Candidates should hold Board Certification or an equivalent recognized qualification and must have completed fellowship or subspecialty training in Interventional Neuroradiology. Proven procedural expertise is required across cerebral aneurysm treatment, AVM intervention, mechanical thrombectomy, carotid and intracranial stenting and other advanced neurovascular techniques. The successful consultant should be highly experienced in interpreting CT, MRI and angiographic imaging and able to integrate these findings rapidly during time-sensitive neurological emergencies. Experience working within an established stroke center, tertiary neuroscience service or high-volume neurointerventional program is highly desirable. Candidates should be eligible for professional licensing with the Dubai Health Authority. Strong procedural judgment, leadership ability and multidisciplinary communication skills are essential for managing complex neurovascular cases. Fluency in English is required, while Arabic or additional language proficiency would be advantageous.
