Role Context

The Consultant - Neurointerventional Radiology will hold a pivotal clinical and service-development position within an advanced neurosciences environment. Beyond performing technically complex endovascular procedures, the consultant will help shape neurovascular pathways, support rapid stroke intervention, provide specialist imaging interpretation, and guide multidisciplinary decision-making for difficult cerebrovascular cases. The position also carries responsibility for clinical standards, protocol development, mentoring, and expansion of a high-acuity neuro-interventional service.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver the full range of consultant-level diagnostic and therapeutic neuro-interventional procedures.
• Perform mechanical thrombectomy for eligible patients with acute large-vessel ischemic stroke.
• Treat intracranial aneurysms using coiling, flow-diversion, and other appropriate endovascular techniques.
• Perform embolization for cerebral arteriovenous malformations and arteriovenous fistulas.
• Undertake preoperative or therapeutic tumor embolization where clinically indicated.
• Perform carotid and intracranial stenting for selected neurovascular conditions.
• Manage spinal vascular abnormalities using appropriate endovascular interventions.
• Conduct diagnostic cerebral and spinal angiography for complex neurovascular assessment.
• Interpret CT, MRI, CTA, MRA, and digital subtraction angiography examinations.
• Produce high-quality diagnostic reports that guide urgent and elective neurological treatment.
• Provide specialist inpatient consultations for patients with complex cerebrovascular disease.
• Assess outpatient neurovascular cases and develop appropriate investigation or intervention strategies.
• Participate in 24-hour stroke and neuro-interventional on-call coverage according to departmental scheduling.
• Respond rapidly to emergency stroke and neurovascular cases requiring endovascular treatment.
• Review anatomical, clinical, and procedural risks before complex interventions.
• Coordinate peri-procedural management with neurology, neurosurgery, emergency medicine, anesthesia, and critical care teams.
• Participate actively in multidisciplinary stroke and neurovascular boards.
• Present complex cases and contribute to consensus-based treatment planning.
• Support development and refinement of stroke pathways, neuro-interventional protocols, and emergency response processes.
• Help expand procedural capability and service capacity within the neuro-interventional program.
• Monitor clinical outcomes, complications, procedural success, and quality indicators.
• Lead or contribute to morbidity reviews, clinical audits, and patient safety initiatives.
• Develop and update evidence-based departmental protocols and procedural standards.
• Mentor fellows, junior radiologists, residents, and radiology technologists.
• Support teaching activities related to neurovascular imaging, endovascular techniques, and acute stroke management.
• Contribute to research, academic projects, publications, and continuing professional education.

Ideal Profile

• MD, MBBS, or an equivalent recognized medical qualification.
• Board Certification in Radiology through the American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or another recognized equivalent.
• Fellowship training in Interventional Neuroradiology or Endovascular Neurosurgery.
• Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialization experience.
• Established consultant-level neuro-interventional practice.
• Valid UAE professional license or eligibility for appropriate consultant licensing.
• Extensive experience performing advanced stroke and neurovascular procedures.
• Proven expertise in mechanical thrombectomy.
• Strong procedural experience in aneurysm coiling and flow-diversion.
• Advanced competence in AVM and AVF embolization.
• Experience with tumor embolization, carotid stenting, intracranial stenting, and spinal vascular intervention.
• Expert interpretation skills across CT, MRI, CTA, MRA, and DSA.
• Experience treating complex adult neurovascular disease.
• Pediatric neuro-interventional exposure is highly desirable.
• Ability to provide emergency neuro-interventional coverage and make rapid treatment decisions.
• Strong leadership skills with experience contributing to service development.
• Proven ability to work closely with neurology, neurosurgery, intensive care, and emergency medicine teams.
• Experience mentoring junior medical and technical staff.
• Fluency in English is required.
• Arabic language skills are advantageous.
