Role Context
The Consultant Interventional Radiologist will provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic image-guided procedures that allow complex conditions to be treated with minimally invasive techniques. The role combines procedural expertise, diagnostic imaging interpretation, multidisciplinary treatment planning, emergency decision-making, and clinical leadership. By offering alternatives to conventional surgery where appropriate, the consultant will help reduce procedural risk, shorten recovery periods, and improve treatment options across vascular medicine, oncology, and other specialties.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a broad range of minimally invasive interventional radiology procedures using appropriate imaging guidance.
- Conduct angioplasty procedures for patients with clinically significant vascular narrowing or obstruction.
- Perform vascular stenting according to patient anatomy, disease characteristics, and evidence-based interventional protocols.
- Undertake embolization procedures for vascular abnormalities, bleeding control, tumor treatment, and other approved clinical indications.
- Perform image-guided biopsies to obtain diagnostic tissue samples safely and accurately.
- Conduct percutaneous drainage procedures for abscesses, fluid collections, and other conditions requiring minimally invasive intervention.
- Review and interpret CT, MRI, ultrasound, and other diagnostic imaging to guide clinical decisions and procedural planning.
- Assess patients before procedures, including review of imaging, laboratory results, medications, clinical history, and procedural risk.
- Develop individualized interventional treatment strategies in collaboration with referring physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide post-procedure assessment, complication monitoring, and follow-up recommendations.
- Participate in oncological treatment planning and provide image-guided interventions where clinically appropriate.
- Support vascular medicine teams in the management of arterial and venous disease.
- Deliver urgent interventional radiology support for emergency presentations requiring rapid diagnosis or minimally invasive treatment.
- Maintain strict standards for sterile technique, procedural safety, radiation protection, and infection prevention.
- Ensure accurate procedural documentation, imaging reports, clinical notes, consent records, and follow-up instructions.
- Work closely with surgeons, oncologists, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, intensivists, and other specialists.
- Mentor junior radiologists, residents, fellows, and clinical staff involved in interventional imaging services.
- Contribute to departmental teaching, case reviews, clinical education, and continuing professional development.
- Participate in quality improvement programs, clinical audits, research, and patient-safety initiatives.
- Ensure practice remains compliant with UAE healthcare regulations, DHA requirements, hospital policies, and recognized international standards.
Ideal Profile
- Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Board Certification in Radiology.
- Recognized fellowship training in Interventional Radiology.
- Western training such as UK CCT, American Board certification, or an equivalent internationally recognized qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of post-fellowship experience performing interventional radiology procedures.
- Fluent spoken and written Arabic and English.
- Valid DHA license or eligibility to practice in Dubai.
- Strong practical experience in angioplasty, stenting, embolization, biopsies, and drainage procedures.
- Advanced understanding of vascular and non-vascular interventional techniques.
- Strong ability to interpret CT, MRI, ultrasound, and other imaging relevant to procedural planning.
- Experience supporting oncology, vascular medicine, and emergency services through image-guided interventions.
- Proven capability managing complex patients requiring multidisciplinary treatment.
- Strong clinical judgment and confidence making procedural decisions in high-acuity situations.
- Excellent communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and willingness to mentor junior medical staff.
- Commitment to evidence-based medicine, patient safety, clinical governance, research, and continuous professional development.
