Role Context

The Consultant ENT Head and Neck Surgeon will manage patients with complex otolaryngology and head and neck conditions across outpatient clinics, inpatient services, operating theatres, and emergency consultations. The role combines comprehensive ENT practice with advanced surgical responsibility involving head and neck tumors, thyroid and salivary gland disease, airway disorders, voice and swallowing conditions, and other challenging pathology.

Through close collaboration with oncology, radiology, pathology, speech therapy, anesthesia, and surgical teams, the consultant will help improve diagnostic accuracy, treatment coordination, surgical outcomes, and long-term patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage a broad range of ear, nose, throat, head, and neck conditions in outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Perform advanced ENT and head and neck surgical procedures according to clinical indication and international standards.
• Evaluate and surgically manage benign and malignant head and neck tumors.
• Treat disorders involving the salivary glands, thyroid, upper airway, larynx, pharynx, and related head and neck structures.
• Assess patients with voice disorders, swallowing difficulties, airway obstruction, chronic ENT disease, and complex structural abnormalities.
• Conduct flexible and rigid endoscopic examinations and interpret relevant diagnostic findings.
• Review imaging, pathology, laboratory investigations, and endoscopic results when developing individualized treatment plans.
• Coordinate pre-operative assessment, surgical planning, intra-operative care, and postoperative management.
• Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and complex case conferences involving oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, radiation specialists, and other clinicians.
• Work closely with speech and language therapists in the management of voice, swallowing, and rehabilitation requirements.
• Provide emergency ENT consultation for acute airway, bleeding, infection, trauma, and other urgent otolaryngology conditions.
• Monitor postoperative recovery, identify complications early, and arrange appropriate follow-up or rehabilitation.
• Explain diagnoses, procedures, treatment alternatives, potential complications, and expected outcomes clearly to patients and families.
• Supervise residents, junior physicians, and allied healthcare professionals involved in ENT and head and neck care.
• Contribute to departmental protocols, surgical pathways, patient safety initiatives, clinical audits, and quality improvement programs.
• Participate in research, medical education, case discussions, publications, and continuing professional development activities.
• Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent documentation, treatment plans, and follow-up records.
• Ensure clinical practice complies with hospital governance, infection control, regulatory, and professional standards.

Ideal Profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution.
• Board Certification, CCT, Fellowship, or equivalent recognized specialist qualification in Otolaryngology.
• Fellowship or advanced subspecialty training in Head and Neck Surgery is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in ENT practice.
• Demonstrated expertise in complex head and neck surgical procedures and comprehensive otolaryngology care.
• Strong experience in managing head and neck tumors, airway disorders, salivary gland disease, thyroid conditions, and advanced ENT pathology.
• Western Board Certification such as UK CCT, FRCS, American Board, Canadian Fellowship, Australian Fellowship, or equivalent is highly desirable.
• Experience within a tertiary-care or academic medical center is advantageous.
• Strong surgical judgment, clinical decision-making, and peri-operative management skills.
• Proven ability to work effectively across oncology, radiology, pathology, anesthesia, rehabilitation, and surgical disciplines.
• Leadership experience involving junior doctor supervision, education, service improvement, or departmental development.
• Research, teaching, academic presentation, or publication experience is an advantage.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex surgical conditions and treatment options clearly.
