Role Context

The Consultant ENT Surgeon will provide specialist assessment and treatment for patients presenting with routine, complex, and surgically demanding otolaryngology conditions. The position combines outpatient consultation, inpatient management, diagnostic endoscopy, advanced ENT surgery, imaging interpretation, and coordinated care with audiology, speech therapy, radiology, oncology, and other specialties. The consultant will play an important role in improving hearing, breathing, swallowing, voice, sleep, and head and neck outcomes while supporting safe and evidence-based ENT service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess adult and pediatric patients presenting with ear, nose, throat, airway, sinus, voice, hearing, and head and neck disorders.
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic sinusitis using evidence-based medical and surgical pathways.
• Evaluate and treat otitis media and recurrent middle ear disease.
• Assess patients with hearing loss and determine appropriate diagnostic and treatment strategies.
• Manage nasal obstruction, septal deviation, turbinate disorders, and related upper airway conditions.
• Diagnose and treat tonsillar and adenoidal disease in children and adults.
• Assess patients with snoring and obstructive sleep apnea requiring ENT evaluation.
• Evaluate hoarseness, swallowing difficulty, airway symptoms, and suspected laryngeal disease.
• Investigate neck masses and suspected head and neck tumors.
• Perform comprehensive ENT examinations using appropriate microscopic and endoscopic techniques.
• Conduct flexible and rigid endoscopic assessment of the nasal cavity, pharynx, and larynx where indicated.
• Perform tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy according to accepted surgical indications.
• Undertake septoplasty and related nasal airway procedures.
• Perform functional endoscopic sinus surgery for appropriate sinonasal disease.
• Conduct microscopic ear surgery within approved clinical privileges.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic laryngoscopy procedures.
• Undertake head and neck surgical procedures based on experience and clinical scope.
• Participate in reconstructive management for selected head and neck surgical cases.
• Develop operative plans based on examination findings, imaging, pathology, and patient-specific risk factors.
• Review CT scans for sinonasal, temporal bone, airway, and head and neck pathology.
• Interpret MRI findings relevant to complex ENT and head and neck conditions.
• Review audiograms and correlate results with clinical findings.
• Evaluate endoscopic images and investigations to establish accurate diagnoses.
• Determine when conservative treatment, surgery, surveillance, or multidisciplinary referral is most appropriate.
• Provide non-operative management for ENT disorders where surgical intervention is unnecessary.
• Prescribe appropriate medical treatment for infections, inflammatory conditions, and other otolaryngology disorders.
• Provide preoperative counselling regarding procedure objectives, alternatives, risks, and expected recovery.
• Conduct detailed preoperative evaluation for patients scheduled for ENT surgery.
• Provide postoperative follow-up and monitor healing, symptom improvement, and functional recovery.
• Identify and manage complications including bleeding, infection, airway compromise, and postoperative pain.
• Respond promptly to ENT emergencies requiring urgent consultant assessment.
• Manage epistaxis and other acute nasal emergencies where appropriate.
• Participate in the assessment of airway emergencies in collaboration with anesthesia and critical care teams.
• Collaborate with audiologists on hearing assessment and rehabilitation pathways.
• Work with speech and language therapists for voice, swallowing, and communication disorders.
• Coordinate with radiologists for interpretation of complex head, neck, temporal bone, and sinus imaging.
• Collaborate with oncologists and other specialists for patients with head and neck malignancies.
• Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards when managing oncological ENT cases.
• Work with respiratory and sleep medicine teams for patients with sleep-disordered breathing.
• Coordinate pediatric ENT care with pediatricians and pediatric anesthesia teams where required.
• Provide inpatient consultation for hospitalized patients with ENT-related conditions.
• Deliver outpatient follow-up for chronic and postoperative cases.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, postoperative care, and preventive measures.
• Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, investigation results, and discharge documentation.
• Ensure clinical documentation complies with DHA requirements and institutional policies.
• Participate in departmental clinical audits and outcome reviews.
• Support development and revision of ENT treatment protocols and clinical pathways.
• Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews where applicable.
• Maintain continuing medical education and remain current with developments in otolaryngology.
• Support teaching and mentoring of junior physicians, residents, and allied healthcare professionals.

Ideal Profile

• MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Board Certification in Otolaryngology or an equivalent internationally recognized qualification.
• American Board, Royal College, or comparable specialist certification is acceptable where recognized for licensure.
• DHA Consultant license, eligibility, or ability to obtain Consultant licensure in Dubai.
• Minimum 5 years of post-specialization experience in ENT.
• Previous practice within a tertiary-care or academic hospital environment is preferred.
• Strong experience managing both adult and pediatric otolaryngology cases.
• Proven competence in routine and complex ENT surgery.
• Experience performing functional endoscopic sinus surgery.
• Strong capability in septoplasty, tonsillectomy, and adenoidectomy.
• Experience with microscopic ear surgery is required or highly desirable.
• Competence in diagnostic and operative laryngoscopy.
• Experience managing head and neck tumors is advantageous.
• Exposure to head and neck reconstructive surgery is desirable.
• Strong understanding of sinonasal disease and endoscopic management.
• Experience interpreting CT and MRI studies relevant to ENT practice.
• Ability to review and interpret audiological investigations.
• Strong knowledge of hearing disorders, chronic ear disease, and middle ear pathology.
• Experience managing sleep apnea and upper airway obstruction is advantageous.
