Role Summary
The Consultant Breast Surgeon - Arabic Speaking will diagnose and manage a broad range of breast diseases, including benign lesions, high-risk conditions, and breast cancer. Working within an advanced healthcare facility in Abu Dhabi, the consultant will perform oncologic and reconstructive procedures while coordinating care with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and rehabilitation professionals. The role includes preoperative evaluation, operative treatment, postoperative follow-up, patient counseling, clinical documentation, multidisciplinary tumor board participation, and the use of minimally invasive or robotic‑assisted techniques where clinically appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and manage benign and malignant breast conditions.
- Conduct comprehensive clinical breast examinations and review relevant medical, family, genetic, and surgical histories.
- Evaluate breast masses, cysts, pain, nipple changes, abnormal imaging findings, and suspected malignancies.
- Interpret mammography, breast ultrasound, MRI, biopsy results, pathology reports, and other diagnostic investigations.
- Develop individualized surgical and multidisciplinary treatment plans for patients with breast disease.
- Perform lumpectomy, mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary surgery, and other breast oncology procedures.
- Provide breast‑conserving surgery where clinically appropriate.
- Perform or coordinate reconstructive breast procedures in collaboration with plastic and reconstructive surgeons.
- Manage patients requiring immediate or delayed breast reconstruction.
- Utilize minimally invasive and robotic‑assisted surgical techniques when suitable and available.
- Participate in multidisciplinary breast cancer meetings and tumor board discussions.
- Collaborate with oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, geneticists, plastic surgeons, and specialist breast care nurses.
- Coordinate neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment planning with relevant oncology teams.
- Provide detailed preoperative assessment, surgical counseling, informed consent, and risk discussion.
- Develop postoperative care plans covering pain control, wound management, drain care, rehabilitation, and complication monitoring.
- Monitor patients for bleeding, infection, seroma, lymphedema, wound complications, and recurrence.
- Provide long‑term surveillance and follow‑up for patients treated for breast cancer.
- Counsel patients on treatment options, expected outcomes, recovery timelines, preventive care, and lifestyle considerations.
- Communicate diagnoses and treatment plans clearly and compassionately in Arabic and English.
- Support patients and families through complex or emotionally sensitive treatment decisions.
- Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, pathology reviews, consent records, and follow‑up plans.
- Ensure compliance with UAE healthcare regulations, hospital policies, surgical safety standards, and patient confidentiality requirements.
- Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, quality improvement programs, and patient‑safety initiatives.
- Contribute to breast surgery protocols, clinical pathways, multidisciplinary care standards, and service development.
- Supervise and mentor junior surgeons, residents, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Participate in teaching, research, academic presentations, professional publications, and continuing medical education.
- Stay current with advances in breast oncology, reconstructive surgery, genomic testing, robotic surgery, and minimally invasive techniques.
Ideal Profile
- Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
- Completed specialist training and board certification in General Surgery.
- Fellowship, advanced training, or recognized subspecialty experience in Breast Surgery.
- Valid UAE consultant license or eligibility to obtain the appropriate professional license.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in breast surgery. li>
- Strong expertise in both oncologic and reconstructive breast procedures.
- Proven experience performing mastectomy, lumpectomy, lymph node procedures, and breast‑conserving surgery.
- Experience managing benign breast disease, high‑risk patients, and complex breast cancer cases.
- Practical knowledge of immediate and delayed breast reconstruction pathways.
- Experience with minimally invasive or robotic‑assisted breast surgery is advantageous.
- Western medical education, postgraduate training, or board certification is preferred.
- Fluency in spoken and written Arabic is essential.
- Strong English communication skills are also required.
- Excellent surgical judgment, technical ability, leadership, and complication management skills.
- Experience participating in multidisciplinary breast cancer teams and tumor boards.
- Ability to explain complex diagnoses and treatment options with empathy and cultural sensitivity.
