Construction Technician – Materials Systems in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is an Oil and Energy hiring opportunity for an experienced fabrication and construction systems professional with expertise in material control, engineering data management, inventory administration, and SmartPlant Construction.
The position is full-time and based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The role falls within the Materials Management function of the company.
The Construction Technician will support fabrication and construction teams by administering SmartPlant Construction, Foundation, and associated project systems. The position combines materials coordination, data preparation, inventory control, equipment tracking, and reporting responsibilities across offshore and onshore projects. Accurate management of construction data and physical materials will help reduce shortages, prevent misplaced items, improve reconciliation, and ensure that tools, equipment, consumables, and project materials are available when required. The technician will independently evaluate routine problems and select appropriate solutions using approved operating and technical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer SmartPlant Construction, Foundation, and related fabrication and construction systems.
- Maintain accurate project information within approved databases, registers, and digital platforms.
- Query, structure, clean, validate, and transform engineering, procurement, and construction datasets.
- Prepare data for system imports, exports, analytics, dashboards, and operational reports.
- Identify incomplete, duplicated, inconsistent, or incorrectly formatted project data and coordinate corrections.
- Support the integration of engineering, procurement, fabrication, materials, and construction information.
- Develop practical plans for project material storage, preservation, handling, transportation, and field transfer management.
- Coordinate material movement requirements with construction, warehouse, logistics, procurement, and project teams.
- Perform material bagging, tagging, identification, and reconciliation activities.
- Verify that material tags, quantities, descriptions, and project references match approved documentation.
- Investigate material discrepancies and update reconciliation records after confirmation.
- Develop and maintain lists of loose items shipped with fabricated structures, equipment, and construction packages.
- Ensure shipped loose‑item records contain accurate quantities, identification numbers, destinations, and supporting references.
- Maintain registers for rented equipment, special tools, tackles, and calibration certificates.
- Monitor certificate validity and highlight items requiring calibration, inspection, replacement, or return.
- Control the inventory of tools and tackles assigned to each construction discipline.
- Compare available inventory against planned requirements and identify shortages before work is affected.
- Coordinate shortage information with supervisors, procurement personnel, warehouse teams, and project management.
- Maintain master logs for Plant and Equipment, scaffolding, High‑Value Test Equipment, and consumables.
- Record equipment status, ownership, location, inspection details, issue dates, returns, and availability.
- Support the mobilization, transfer, and demobilization of construction resources.
- Prepare materials and equipment status reports for fabrication and construction management.
- Provide reliable data for progress reporting, resource planning, material forecasting, and project decision‑making.
- Follow approved document control, data governance, material management, and construction procedures.
- Protect the accuracy and confidentiality of project, supplier, equipment, and inventory information.
- Resolve routine systems, data, and material administration issues without requiring direct supervisory approval.
- Escalate significant shortages, data conflicts, missing certificates, or system issues that could affect construction activities.
- Coordinate with engineering teams using three‑dimensional design and detailing applications.
- Extract and interpret relevant data from S3D, E3D, Tekla, Spoolgen, and similar platforms.
- Assist users with routine system queries and provide accurate construction or materials information.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical records for audits, project reviews, and final handover.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by recommending more efficient data, inventory, and materials control processes.
Ideal Profile
- Associate degree or diploma in Material Management or a closely related discipline.
- More than 5 years of experience as a systems administrator or materials systems professional.
- Previous experience in the Oil and Gas, fabrication, construction, marine, or petrochemical industry.
- Hands‑on experience administering SmartPlant Construction, Foundation, or comparable construction information systems.
- Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, and materials data.
- Practical experience with data querying, cleansing, structuring, transformation, imports, exports, and reporting.
- Familiarity with offshore and onshore engineering design and detailing data.
- Working knowledge of S3D, E3D, Tekla, Spoolgen, or related engineering applications.
- Experience controlling construction materials, loose items, rented equipment, tools, tackles, and consumables.
- Understanding of material storage, handling, transportation, tagging, and reconciliation processes.
- Ability to maintain calibration certificates and equipment inspection records.
- Strong competence in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to use spreadsheets for inventory tracking, reconciliation, reporting, and data validation.
- Organized and methodical approach to high‑volume project records.
- Strong analytical skills with careful attention to quantities, equipment identifiers, material codes, and certificate dates.
- Ability to work independently within established operating procedures.
- Clear communication skills for coordinating with engineering, procurement, logistics, warehouse, fabrication, and construction teams.
