Job summary

Agthia Group, a leading Food & Beverage company based in Abu Dhabi, is seeking a Senior Commodity Buyer to manage milling wheat and other grains, optimize sourcing, and ensure timely supply.

You will lead tenders, contracts, and freight planning, while coordinating with finance and suppliers to optimize costs and ensure quality. 7+ years in procurement and GAFTA knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in a relevant field.
• 7+ years in procurement/commodity buying with advanced training.
• Experience in grains commodities and freight operations.
• Experience with foreign import/export regulations and GAFTA courses.

Responsibilities

• Optimize sourcing and shipment plans to ensure long-term commodity coverage.
• Lead sourcing and shipping for Milling Wheat, Hard Wheat, Semi Hard Wheat, and related grains.
• Ensure tenders and direct spot purchases are executed without gaps or quality disputes.
• Lead contract finalization with suppliers within required timelines.
• Monitor freight market pricing and market movements; maintain reporting.
• Manage freight fixtures, ship nominations and demurrage per programme.
• Coordinate with Finance for Letters of Credit and supplier payments.
• Maintain communications with suppliers, brokers, surveyors, vessel agents and shipping agencies.
• Provide market insights on competitor sourcing and cargo movements.
• Support R&D and Commercial teams in cost-saving opportunities.
• Develop Sorghum and other commodities as part of portfolio.

What Will Your Day Look Like?

As a Senior Buyer / Commodity Buyer you will ensure smooth and proper coverage of commodities including Milling Wheat, Hard Wheat and Semi Hard Wheat etc, follow up on the execution of concluded supplier contracts, manage sourcing and shipment plans, and maintain effective deliveries with vendors to ensure there are no gaps in the supply pipeline while achieving the best possible value in the market.

How Will You Make an Impact?

• Optimize sourcing and shipment plans to ensure long‑term commodity coverage at the best possible market position.
• Lead the sourcing and shipping process for Milling Wheat, Hard Wheat, Semi Hard Wheat, Feed Corn, Feed Barley, SBM High Pro, SBM Standard Agri Pro Wheat Bran, DDGS and CFP.
• Ensure smooth execution of tenders and direct spot purchases, including the shipment process, without gaps or quality disputes.
• Lead the process of finalizing and signing contracts with suppliers within the required timelines.
• Monitor freight market pricing, market movements, savings and procurement requirements, and maintain accurate reporting.
• Manage freight fixtures, ship nominations and demurrage to support the agreed shipping and arrival programme.
• Coordinate with Finance to ensure timely Letters of Credit or CAD payments and supplier payments as per contractual terms.
• Maintain effective communication with suppliers, vendors, brokers, surveyors, vessel agents and shipping agencies.
• Monitor competitor sourcing trends and cargo movements into the region and provide relevant market insights.
• Support R&D and Commercial teams in exploring alternate raw materials and identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
• Develop Sorghum and other potential commodities as part of the raw material portfolio.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree, Diploma or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in procurement/commodity buying, with advanced professional and operational training.
• Experience in grains commodities, procurement and freight operations.
• Experience with foreign import/export regulations and procedures.
• GAFTA courses.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of procurement tools and freight fixtures.
• In‑depth negotiation and contract management skills.
• Tender preparation and analysis of supply offers.
• Thorough knowledge of grain commodities.
• Understanding of transportation and storage requirements for grain commodities.
• Knowledge of Stowage Plans and Charter Parties.
• Understanding of insurance of goods and shipments
