Job summary

Job description

The Civil QA/QC Engineer – Power is responsible for ensuring that civil works for substation and power infrastructure projects are executed in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, quality standards, regulatory requirements and client requirements. The role involves implementing quality assurance and quality control processes, conducting inspections, monitoring construction activities, identifying non-conformances and ensuring corrective actions are effectively implemented.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement project-specific Quality Management Plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Method Statements and quality procedures in accordance with project and client requirements.
• Review and verify civil drawings, specifications, method statements, material submittals and technical documents to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Conduct inspections of civil construction activities for substation and power projects, including foundations, equipment bases, cable trenches, drainage systems, roads, fencing and associated infrastructure.
• Inspect and monitor concrete works, reinforcement, formwork, grouting, waterproofing, excavation, backfilling and structural works to ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Inspect and verify incoming civil materials against approved material submittals, technical specifications and project requirements.
• Coordinate and witness relevant material and construction testing, including concrete, soil, compaction and other applicable tests, and review test results for compliance.
• Ensure civil works associated with transformers, GIS, switchgear and other substation equipment foundations are executed in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Raise, monitor and close Inspection Requests (IRs), Material Inspection Requests (MIRs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Quality Observation Reports and other quality-related documentation.
• Identify quality deviations, defects and non-conformances and coordinate with project teams and subcontractors to implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor subcontractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with approved quality standards, drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Conduct regular site inspections and internal quality audits to verify compliance with approved procedures, drawings and applicable standards.
• Review and maintain quality documentation including material certificates, concrete test reports, inspection records, checklists, survey records and project quality documentation.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Site Engineers, consultants, clients and subcontractors to resolve civil quality-related issues.
• Participate in root cause analysis for quality issues and support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Ensure all required quality records are properly maintained and support the preparation of quality dossiers and project handover/closeout documentation.
• Ensure compliance with applicable IEC, BS, ISO and relevant UAE authority standards and requirements relating to civil works and power/substation projects.
• Provide quality guidance to site teams and subcontractors and support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, rework and NCRs.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 6–10 years of relevant QA/QC experience, with strong experience in substation or power infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in civil works for substations, including foundations, equipment bases, cable trenches, drainage, roads, fencing and associated infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of QA/QC procedures, including ITPs, Method Statements, MIRs, IRs, NCRs, inspections and quality documentation.
• Experience reviewing civil drawings, specifications and material submittals, and conducting site inspections and quality audits.
• Knowledge of concrete, reinforcement, formwork, grouting, waterproofing and structural works within substation projects.
• Experience coordinating with clients, consultants, subcontractors and project teams to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions.
• UAE/GCC substation project experience is preferred.
