Job summary

Tanqeeb in Abu Dhabi is seeking an experienced Transportation/Electrical/Civil engineer to lead traffic signal strategy and operations. You will develop adaptive signal control using AI and predictive analytics, and coordinate with consultants, developers, and system providers to enhance intersection performance.

Strategy

• Develop and implement advanced traffic signal strategies based on simulations and international benchmarking.
• Contribute to strategic planning and review of Dubai’s traffic signal network.
• Coordinate with consultants, developers, and system providers to enhance traffic signal systems and response plans.
• Oversee project planning and alignment of traffic signal initiatives with RTA frameworks, ensuring effective resourcing, compliance, managing dependencies and benefit realization.
• Develop and refine adaptive signal control strategies that incorporate artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to improve efficiency and safety at intersections.
• Contribute to preparing traffic infrastructure for integration with emerging technologies such as connected and cooperative systems, ensuring solutions are scalable and adaptable.
• Support the implementation of initiatives in line with RTA’s digital transformation directives by applying modern engineering approaches and performance baselines.

Operations

• Supervise signal-controlled intersections using UTC/SCOOT systems, Siemens ST800/ST950 controllers, and IC4 configurations.
• Manage signal timing implementation, testing, EPROM updates, and post-deployment performance analysis.
• Conduct site acceptance testing (SAT), maintain Maximo system entries, and oversee adaptive signal operations.
• Monitor project execution for traffic signal upgrades through periodic progress reviews, risk/issue tracking, and vendor deliverable management to protect timelines, budgets, and quality.
• Coordinate traffic data requirements, monitor control system operations, and respond to congestion hotspots.
• Train traffic control center staff on signal engineering and adaptive systems; support shift-based coverage including nights and holidays.
• Enforce QHSE compliance during field operations and within the traffic management center.
• Apply AI-enabled monitoring techniques and predictive data models to support incident detection, congestion management, and improved safety outcomes.
• Ensure cybersecurity considerations are integrated into the daily operation and maintenance of traffic control and signal systems.

Product/Process Improvement

• Analyze ATMS effectiveness and propose improvements in coordination with system developers.
• Review studies and road projects to identify and propose signal-controlled intersection needs.
• Design and verify SCOOT system deployments and signal timing strategies for major events.
• Conduct project evaluations, audits, and lessons-learned reviews to improve signal engineering practices and simulation-driven strategies.
• Institutionalize use of data dashboards, predictive models, and real-time analytics in routine evaluations of traffic system performance.
• Support audits, benefit-realization studies, and lessons-learned reviews to ensure continuous improvement in signal operations and engineering practices.

Physical Working Conditions

• Required to work in shifts, including night shifts, weekends, holidays, and during special/unplanned events. Involves frequent site visits for system testing, verification, and inspection.
