The Role
Responsibilities
- Financial Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company’s short-term and long-term goals. This includes budgeting, forecasting, and economic modeling specific to construction projects.
- Construction Accounting: Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring adherence to construction-specific accounting principles and regulations. This involves managing job costing, revenue recognition, and project-based accounting.
- Cash Flow Management: Implement strategies to optimize cash flow, considering construction projects’ unique payment cycles and capital requirements.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks specific to the construction industry, including contract risks, bonding requirements, and insurance considerations.
- Project Financial Oversight: Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting for individual construction projects.
- Technology Integration: Evaluate and implement financial technology solutions that cater to the specific needs of the construction industry.
- Stakeholder Communication: Prepare and present financial reports and analyses to company leadership, board members, and potential investors, translating complex financial data into actionable insights.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred
- Minimum of 10-15 years of financial management experience, with at least 10 years in the construction industry
- In-depth knowledge of construction accounting principles, job costing, and project-based financial management
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, bonding, and industry-specific regulations
- Proficiency in construction-specific financial software and ERP systems
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments
